Rebooking Confusion

I'm hoping we can rebook while on our 1/29/05 Magic cruise. So therefore, I'm checking rates through TA's so I have something to compare to when I see DCL's onboard rebooking rate.

But I have seen references here to folks rebooking on board (and getting the onboard credits) then transferring the reservation to a TA-- thus getting the TA credits as well. Is this true??? Isn't it like double-dipping?? If this is indeed true, how do I go about doing that. I certainly want to get as many discounts as I can.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you book on board you get the $200.00 on board credit. SOme TA's also have credit as well. When we booked last month on the ship they asked if we wanted it transfered to the TA we used for that cruise. Remember that the cruise line pays the TA. What the TA does with there profit is up to them. If they want to give you a bonus, well then you are lucky. I say never look a gift horse in the mouth,

Yes, you can keep the SBC and take advantage of a TA rebate.

Where you may run into a problem is if you have a discounted (group) rate from a TA. These offers cannot be combined with the onboard bookings. It's one or the other.

So in addition to the two sets of onboard credit, you're paying the lower TA price for the cruise? Sorry-- I'm not usually this thick!

Yes you can. I rebooked on board our 11/6 cruise for the 7/9/05 West Coast cruise. We got the 10% off and the $200 room credit from DCL and also got a $200 rebate from our TA. It was a win-win situation.

No MamaCrush, it looks like you're still a bit confused.

What you'll get is the current onboard booking offer which is usually 10% if you rebook a 7 day cruise. In addition, you'll get the SBC for that promotion.

Once you're back, you can transfer your onboard booked reservation to a TA to take advantage of any rebates they're offering. (In belleandbeasts's case, it looks like AAA was providing a SBC.) DU offers rebates based on the price of the cruise.

What you may discover is that the TA price for the cruise that you selected is even lower than the 10% off that you got by booking onboard. Chances are its a group rate. If that's the case, you can't get that lower price and keep the SBC that you got from booking onboard. Once you get a group price, that's it. It cannot be combined with any other DCL offer.

I hope that this makes it a bit clearer. :D :D :D

ok I am a little thick in the head (and in other places not to be mentioned) are you required to pay an additional deposit to the TA? just wondering on this and if you already have a room assigned by Disney (we requested and got the same room) do you stay in the same room assigned? Sorry I am just wondering if it makes sense to go ahead and do this.

No additional deposit, and you keep the same room. We have done the re-book thing twice and think it is a good deal.
