Ok, so I know it's very much of a joke to ask for affordable places to eat in Bermuda but I'm asking anyway! :)

We are staying in Southhampton but plan on traveling around the island a bit. If you know of a place that won't break the bank that you enjoyed, please share!

My family of 4 is not super picky eaters so we'd like anything from burgers on up!

thanks in advance! :)

Just returned from a cruise to Bermuda in May...its truly a lovely place.

And expensive.

We only ate on the island at two places. Had lunch at Tobacco Bay beach where there is a decent food stand (and bar) on the deck that overlooks the beach. Two chicken caesar wraps with fries and two bottles of water was about $37. We also went to the Swizzle Inn (original location, near the Caves) and had a pitcher of rum swizzles and shared a large plate of BBQ nachos (awesome, I might add) and that bill came to about $40.

There are no chain restaurants in Bermuda, no traditional 'fast food' (except for one KFC in Hamilton).

Thanks, I have been there several times but only on cruises as well about twenty years ago I recall my husband and I had a hot dog and shared a soda and it costs $13! I do hope to get to the swizzle inn... gotta have a rum swizzle! :) :beach:

Swizzle is well priced for Bermuda, but by the time you taxi there from Southhampton it will eat up any savings!

Try Tio Pepe or Henry VIII, right on South Shore, or if you are up in Dockyard, the Frog & Onion. If you get out to St. Georges, try Freddys Pub or the White Horse. All of these are casual dining.

There used to be a couple of great casual places right in town - The Spot and Take Five (both where locals go for lunch). Don't know if they are still there.

Some places appear to be casual/cheap but I WOULD NOT go to them - KFC in Hamilton and Ice Queen right outside Hamilton are two of them. If they are cheap they are hangouts - (crime, drug exchanges, etc.).

We will be there in August. I actually found the most economical was to do the meal plan where we are staying, which gives us full breakfast and dinner every day.

We are also right down the road from you at home!:wave2:

Have fun!

Jane

The entire three and a half days we were in Bermuda on the cruise we never used a taxi once...the bus system there is really well-designed and far more economical.

We had three-day transportation passes that permitted unlimited use of the bus AND ferry system, only $28 each person. We were docked in Hamilton but made it ALL over the island just using bus and ferries.

we've used the busses as well and found them easy to use. i'm hoping to do that again this visit. Plus it's fun to just ride the ferries, it's a beautiful boat ride that's practically free! :) :thumbsup2

To each his own - I lived there for 10 years and never went on a bus once!:rotfl2:

lol... you were lucky.. they don't let us rent cars! ugh!!! and with the added crowds I haven't gone near a moped in 15 years there. I just can't put my teens on them either, I'm nervous enough with them driving here on the right side of the road.. I couldn't imagine them doing mopeds at night driving to south hampton in the dark. :drive:

The busses are fine as long as you avoid the pink "beach special" bus. That thing is always packed and always in a hurry :)

Swizzle Inn is really good (there are 2 of them now) We've also eaten at Frog and Onion Pub at the Dockyard was really good too, and about the same price as Swizzle Inn. There's live music too, and then then you can watch the glassblower and sample rum cake for dessert.

I don't blame you - there is nothing worse than road rash, unless it's a terrible burn on your calf from a tailpipe!

I had a great burger and a great adult smoothie type drink with some type of local alcohol in it that was awesome at the Frog and Onion. I didn't think the prices were bad either.
