Really, Really Weird Question

My 14 year old son is very much into his Irish/Scottish heritage (as well as his Italian heritage - you should see him devour an entire pizza by himself:scared: :crazy2: ), and his fondest wish is to get a kilt. That's going to be his 18th birthday present, because hopefully by then he will have stopped growing - in 2 years time he gained 37 pounds and grew 10 inches!! Good luck at the V&A. I think there's nothing sexier than a man in a kilt. Thinking of Sean Connery right now.....

I really can't see it being a problem. A formal kilt and appropriate attire is just as formal as a tuxedo and they only require suits at V&A's. I would definitely call back and speak to someone else.

I just got off the phone with a nice lady at the podium at V&A. She said that very often gentlemen of Scottish descent will come wearing a kilt, and it is perfectly acceptable. The only things they are very strict about (for men) are t-shirts, jeans, shorts, tennis shoes, flip-flops and sandals; and a jacket must be worn.

I wear my kilt every Friday at work and I am bringing mine to Disney in January to wear to Raglan Road. A dress kilt would certainly look great at V&A.

Shasta, are you sure you live in Mississippi and not Seattle? Because that outfit would be perfect for this area! :) I sent the pic to DH b/c I'm sure he'll love the socks, and he'll wonder if you have "toe-socks" like he does (he's half Korean so he has an ample supply of those from his trips back there). :)

DizzDoll, I was going to suggest a Utilikilt, even though it's not a *traditional* one made of scads and scads of wool, for your son. They are quite fun and a bit less expensive than a wool kilt, and perhaps a bit easier to put on. If I'm not totally wrong, that's one on Shasta there. DH was given a black dress Utilikilt to wear as a Best Man (the groom wore one too), and they rented tuxedo shirts and coats (and wore lace-up army boots but that's just them, LOL), and looked HOT.

Later, DH worse his Utilikilt while being "anchor" for his company's annual tug-of-war at their summer picnic, and they ALWAYS won when he did that. He thinks it's b/c he psyched out the opponents with his "skirt".
