We are going to V&A's for dinner and DH has lost a LOT of weight and his nice suit no longer fits (is that good news or bad news ;) ) We were wondering can he wear a dress kilt with a jacket??

I would call V&A and ask. Here's the phone number:
407-939-3463

I agree--that's one that only V&A can answer.
Let us know what they say--

And I'm sure his knees will look cute in a kilt, too!!;) I love seeing guys in dress kilts.

I think that's a wonderful idea. A dress kilt for a man is VERY formal, in my book. And HOT.

Boy, I'm getting jealous! Joe would never wear a kilt or eat at V&A, but I wish he would! I'd feel like I was out to dinner in Monte Carlo with Sean Connery!

Definitely that is formal wear. Go for it!!!

My brother got married in his kilt!

You are going to have an awesome dinner!

Aren't kilt wearers supposed to go "commando" in their kilts?:confused3 :lmao:

I do think a kilt looks cool! Congrats to your DH for losing all that weight! Let us know what V&A's says about it.

A) A kilt with a jacket is formal wear

B) A real man wears nothing under his kilt but what God gave him. it is called "going regimental"

Thumbs up for kilts! My husband is Scottish and wore a kilt to our wedding.

I think that is a very cool look for guys -- very Off-Kilter -- and I DO love those Off-Kilter boys. :)

I bet he'll get a lot of attention at V&A for being unique!

1)Yes, I know it is formal wear, I never said it wasn't!

2)Kramer calls it "going commando!":lmao: I was just wondering if doing so with a kilt is "the norm" which I heard that it was. I guess your post confirms it!

I found this...

It is traditional custom that no undergarments are worn underneath the kilt, and it is military regulation for soliders in Highland regiments. However, there are exceptions. In Highland step dancing, athletes for Highland games, and band leaders (who raise their knees to chest level as a way of keeping time) wearing undergarments is more seemly and permitted.

For civilians, undergarments is a personal choice, not a regulatory requirement. Some wear underwear, usually bikini briefs (which are easier to get in and out of when nature calls), some do not. One of the reasons that I recommended specially made kilt shirts with longer tails is that this would provide a layer between the skin and the worsted wool for those who wear their kilts in the traditional fashion, especially if they are sensitive to wool.

Last but not least, there is the answer given by all Scotsmen - regardless of whether they have underwear or not - to the age-old question of "What is worn underneath the kilt?" It is:
NOTHING WORN, ALL IN FIRST CLASS WORKING ORDER!

My DH would say that true Scotsman don't wear anything under their kilts.

While a kilt can be formal (There are both formal and casual kilts but I don't think too many would notice the difference.) you have to be careful what you wear with it. You have to have a jacket that is meant for a kilt or otherwise it just doesn't work. Now, for all I know, this is what you meant but I just wanted to give you a heads up. I know there are quite a few kilt owners (like my DH) who simply rent the proper jacket depending on the occasion.

I don't know, but I keep remembering a picture many years ago when Prince Harry was a baby(or at least a toddler!!) peeking underneath Prince Charles' kilt.

All this talk of kilts and what or what not is under them! :woohoo: ! I'm not thinking about food anymore!! I think my DH would look wonderful in a kilt ... tall ... good looking with nice legs but he just looks at me strangely. Can't an Irishman wear a kilt or is it only the Scots????

Anyway ... that was not a weird question OP but an interesting one ... and now I am off to ... well I forget what I am off to do cause my mind wandered thinking about men in kilts!!! :thumbsup2

Hey, that's a good question. I am thinking my Cuban DH might look pretty hot in one too!

*WLL fanning self*

Technically, any person can wear a kilt. Hey...maybe it'll catch on and this whole "pants" fad will be over. :)

:thumbsup2 That would work for me!!!!!!!!!!! Wow ... they will soon be moving this thread to the Community Board (:scared1:) ... all these men in kilt thoughts ... I am fanning myself like WLL!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring on the bagpipes too ... I LOVE them! Two people where I work play bagpipes and once brought them in on Christmas Eve to play - enjoyed that!

Though I would like to know the answer to the V&A question ... just out of curiosity! OP, you out there??? Did you call and ask yet????

I called WDW Dining today for the V&A Reservations line and posed the problem to the person who answered. She said she was not sure, but the dress code does specify jacket, slacks and shoes so she thought a kilt would not be acceptable. She also suggested calling later on, as nobody (other than kitchen staff) is actually in V&A until later in the afternoon.
