I am taking the kids ( 12 and 10.5) to Disney next Monday for the first time as a single mom and it has been six years since we went on a vacation.

I am beyond excited that we are going, but scared to death!

I have never flown with the kids without their dad with us. I have never had to plan so many things by myself. I am afraid I will forget something important, in spite of having a great check list.

We are staying somewhere I have never stayed( AoA ), have Magic Bands, which sound so cool, but I worry they will have issues. We have the Dining Plan and I am afraid that my picky kids won't like anything on the adult menus, even though we looked at all the menus of the places we have ADRs...

ARGH! I am getting myself all worked up! Does anyone have any advice on how to calm down and just enjoy the excitement?

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this!

How exciting, only 5 more days! You will have so much fun. The kids are old enough to help with so many things, it will go great. My advice for the airport is to make sure the kids wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off. Put all jewelry, keys, coins, etc in your carryon before going thru security. The kids can handle their own bags, just explain what needs to be done before you get there. Also, put on your magic bands right before you get off the plane. That way so don't have to dig for them when you get to magic express.
At the parks, make sure you have your kttw cards, just in case your MBs don't work.
Have a wonderful time!

How awesome that you are taking your kids on this amazing trip! They are lucky to have you! Try not to worry about things that are out of your control. I'm sure everything will be just fine, but if you do happen to have issues with the magic bands or anything else it can be fixed! Customer service at Disney is by far the best I have ever experienced! They will work it out! As for your picky eater, I would ask if they can eat off of the child's menu even if they have the adult dining plan. I really think it will not be a problem. If not, I'm sure your kids will find something they like. They won't starve, I promise! Have fun and safe travels!

Thank you both! We leave in a few hours and I am really looking forward to this trip, so I think that is helping a little with the jitters!

Sounds like you have already put a lot of thought and planning into your trip. I bet you and your family are going to have a great time. maybe share the checklist with your kids so they can be a part of making things go smoothly? Or give them specific jobs? Even if every little detail doesn't go as planned, the fact that you're taking time to spend with your kids is fantastic. Some of my fondest memories of traveling with my family are when things went a little off and we had to improvise and wound up having a great time. And the cast members are there to help too.

Have a good trip!
