We are going to do a Universal trip instead of Disney this summer. We would probably spend 2-3 days at Universal then would like to do Discovery Cove. Would it be best to stay on site at Universal for 2 days then change hotels? We would want a resort with a great pool wherever we change to, close to Sea World. For those who have done this before, any tips? Or would it be best to just stay at the Universal hotel the whole week? I am thinking we will stay at RP.

price it out both ways for your dates to see which is least expensive and by how much.

we were looking at doing the same thing, and a week at rpr with stay more, save more was fairly close to a shorter stay there and a separate stay at a seaworld area hotel (minus the hassle of having to move mid-trip)

I think you would be better off staying at a Universal resort for the whole week...it's just easier. I believe there is a free shuttle from the resorts to SeaWorld and DC but I'm not sure of the schedule.

When we were there (August) the shuttle to SW didn't leave the resort until around 9:30/ 10:00. We just took a cab to DC - around $20 each way and that way we were able to arrive right at check-in time at 8:00. We wanted to be sure to maximize our time there and get a morning swim time in case the frequent afternoon summer rainstorms came.

I agree that staying at Universal would be easier unless you get a significant savings to make it worth the move. :goodvibes

We are doing the Discovery Cove/USO trip for the first part of our Christmas trip...staying the entire 5 nights of this leg of the trip at RPR...I stayed there this summer on a convention trip and the hotel is awesome, plus the onsite perk of front of line in the parks is the best ever.

The longer you stay onsite at universal the bigger the discount. I found a shuttle service to discovery cove that we are using.

The RPR (Loews Royal Pacific Resort) has an AWESOME swimming pool, and the great thing is that you can pool hop to the other 2 resort pools at Hard Rock and the Portofino.
