Really DUMB Airport Question

In light of all the recent events, can someone answer this rather dumb question?

Usually when flying somewhere, you are met by friends/family to pick you up. In the past these people were allowed to wait at your arrival gate for you. I'm assuming that this will no longer be with all of the new security measures, as most of these gates are thru secure areas. Can someone suggest where will be a good place for friends/family to meet those arriving on their flights?

Just curious about this and wonder if others have given it any thought. Thanks

I guess a lot depends on the design of the individual airport. At some locations, there may be a waiting area just outside the secure area, others prefer to meet at baggage claim. Really it is 'play it by ear'...let the people who are picking up the passenger find you. In fact, it may be easyer to send just one or two folks to actually meet the passenger, then meet with the rest of the family at a nearby restaurant or at their home.

I dont think this is a dumb question at all. Just the other day I asked my MIL where they (she and my husband) are planning on picking up my son and I. She said they will go through the airport as far as possible and they will be there as soon as we get off the plane. But maybe she hadnt thought that with the new security they may not be able to do that. If they arent there as soon as we land that will give me a few minutes to dry my tears and kiss the ground. But youre right let them find us. Nana wont start her Disney vacation without her grandson.

Glad you didn't find my question too dumb! Thanks!!! I'm thinking of saying that meeting at the baggage claim, or just at the airlines check in counter, that way we should be sure to hook up!

I'm not upset about the extra security, just trying to save losing any family members at the airport!

Many baggage carousels look alike. Or if you are driving through looking to pick up someone waiting on the sidewalk, many pylons evenly spaced along the sidewalk look alike. Therefore you should agree in advance on a more uniquelylabeled rendezvous point. Inside an airline terminal, the main check in area for a particular airline is something reasonably unique. Outside the security checkpoint is a good place to wait if you know the gate number but only if you cannot get to the gate using a choice of two or more security checkpoints.

At Orlando there is a big lobby with escalators going up to the Hyatt hotel mezzanine, there is a big red neon A at one end and a big green neon B at the other, during the holiday season there is a huge Christmas tree in the middle which is also a pleasant area to meet.
