Reallocating Points Across Memberships

Apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but I am curious as to whether anyone has any experience/success in “re-allocating” points from another use year (and therefore different membership number).

Here is the situation:
- I have two different use years (and therefore membership numbers).
- I have a booking (made at the 7 month mark) next March. It was booked through my Feb use year, and booked with then-current Feb 2021 use year points.
- I also have a June use year. Due to all of the recent cancellations I now have banked 2019 UY points that will expire on May 31 2021.
- I would like to reallocate these points to my March booking.
- There is no longer availability, so I cannot cancel and rebook.

I have reallocated points before, but only within a single membership. Is it possible to reallocate across membership numbers? If not, can I transfer in the banked points from my June UY to my March UY (not sure if you can transfer banked points?) and then re-allocate?

You can only transfer points before they are banked. So if you banked the points already they won't be able to transferred.

The other option is simply to drop and hope the reservation is still there to book with the other points.

Maybe someone else has a suggestion but I would try calling MS and see if they have an option for you.

I would love to know the answer to this... Same situation. Afraid to cancel and quickly rebook with my other membership. I am thinking of doing it in the middle of the night to minimize the chance of someone else grabbing it LOL. Or maybe modify the reservation one night at a time and grab each night sequentially? Not sure if the waitlist gets cancellations automatically or manually...

This is actually one of the cons of having multiple memberships. HOWEVER, it never hurts to call MS and ask. Sometime they will help you but that is not something you can or should expect.

I have not had any luck ever getting MS to transfer banked points between my own memberships.

However, I was lucky this week and was able to get my October trip booked using newly acquired banked points in my Dec UY which had been booked using my Aug UY.

One thing you can do is keep watching for dates at the beginning and end of your trip. If they show up, book it with the banked points and then drop the nights In the original.

You may be able to piece things together this way. Even if you end up not getting it all, it helps use some up and MS can link them so you don’t have to move rooms.

I would call. The rules as written are more flexible with multiple contracts of a single owner. I'm still not thinking they'll just reallocate but they may be willing to transfer the banked points in this situation, they have before on a case by case basis and certainly this is an unprecedented time. Alternatively you could pick up single nights with the banked points in the second contract, cancel in the primary and then link them. Technically it'd be separate reservations but if the exact same type of room and they are linked, you shouldn't have to move. Otherwise you could pick up what is available, cancel those days in the existing reservation and do a split stay.

If you cancell and then try to rebook it might be held or goto a waitlist request. So no guarantees there.

As an owner with multiple UY I have never had them move banked points into another contract to use. Have also not been able to use points from another membership to use instead of points from the membership that originally booked the room. Unless I was willing to cancel and rebook or there was current availability.

Maybe you will get lucky with an understanding CM. Please report back on your outcome.

If the reservation is really important to you, I would not cancel and try to rebook it. I tried it once and the night must have gone to a person on the waitlist because it was gone immediately. However, member services did it for me once and said they were able to grab it. Not sure if that was luck or if they have the ability to hold onto it if you know what I mean. Call them!

It would be very unusual for MS to do this but all you can do is ask if they will transfer the banked points. Otherwise you'd just have to risk cancelling and rebooking with the other UY.
