Reallocating Banked Points

I have a BLT Dec. reservation that I may have to cancel. I used 42 banked BLT 2010 points as part of the reservation. It's a total of 126 points. Can I reallocate those banked points to my AKV Nov. 2 reservation that uses 56 points and use the 2011 points for the Dec. reservation? I think I've done that in the past but Member Services says they will have to cancel and rebook the Dec. reservation using the 42 2011 points. I have an Oct. UY. What I'm afraid of is my 126 are going to go into holding and then I'll have not only points in holding but I'll have 42 banked points in holding. I'm starting to confuse myself!

If you do it now, how can they go into holding? Get the specifics from MS before they touch your accounts, then when it's all done, verify that it was done correctly.

Thanks for your reply. I'm trying to avoid the banked points going into holding by reallocating them now before I have to cancel Dec. reservation due to family illness. But MS told me I can't reallocate them to the Nov. reservation without canceling the Dec. reservation first. My hope is that I won't have to cancel Dec. but would like to get those banked points into another reservation just in case I do cancel. My Nov. reservation is for Nov. 2 and my 31 days to avoid holding for the Dec. trip points is Nov. 1. If I know for sure Dec. is not going to happen I'll cancel Nov. 1 and hope to reallocate to the Nov. 2 reservation. I just feel as if I've reallocated points before without having to cancel an existing reservation. MS just made kind of a "naming" change to the points. There's no 11 month booking issue, there's no use year issue. It's a book keeping change to me.

It may be a moot point because whether they're banked points or not once they go into holding the restrictions will be the same for either one.

You cannot change the points associated with a reservation without cancelling and re-booking it. (This is a restriction to prevent members from bypassing the home resort booking priority by re-allocating points after they've passed the 7-month mark.)

The only way to do it would be if the same room is available for booking today. It's a risky prospect, otherwise, as there's no way to know if someone has a waitlist that matches your room. If they do, your room could be snapped up in the time between when the cast member cancels your existing reservation and tries to re-book it again with different points.

MS will allow you to use up banked points from a cancelled reservation to free up current UY points.

However they have to be available in order for that to happen. Unfortunately, your points won't be available for the swap until you cancel the December reservation. And, if they are holding points when you cancel, then they will only be able to do the point reallocation if there is still availability for your November room.

Thanks for all your replies. I'm going to have positive thoughts and hope our Dec. trip goes off as planned. If not, I'll make whatever alternate plans I can.
There are so many more important things to worry about than having banked points in holding! Thanks again for responding. This "mutual aid society" is what make the DIS such a valuable tool.
