I'm trying to get in shape for our WDW trip and have read a lot of different things about the average distance walked in the parks each day. Some say up to 14km a day.

Does anyone actually know how far they walked if they had hit MK at rope drop, stayed all day and headed home after the show at night?

Crazy Cat Boy and I are mid 40 and of average fitness and can walk 2.5 - 3 hrs straight at the moment, but I'd like to know if I need to kick the training up a notch! :rotfl:

Any and all advice gratefully accepted. Plus training tips for food and wine festival! ;)

I think you'll be fine if you are of "average fitness" and can walk about 3 hours straight. I would say that the average amount of walking is somewhere between 4-6 miles.

I wore a pedometer the first time I went to WDW and averaged 30000 steps/day but you are stopping for rides etc so you don't really notice it

Ive been to disneyland recently, I'm not quite 40 and of average fitness but can't run far at all. I spent a few weeks on the treadmill doing 4k in 30ish minutes before we went. I think you'll be fine because it's not like you're speed walking through the park and you stop and start ALOT. You might walk a short distance to the next ride, wait in line for 20 minutes, spend 2 minutes on the ride and move on. It is unbelievably exhausting though and your feet kill you by the end of the day, but it's not like a marathon.

Totally agree with the others. It's not the walking that kills you, it's the standing around. If you're of an average fitness level, you shouldn't have any problem with the walking. If I was going to 'train' for my trip to WDW, I would start by increasing the amount of time during the day that you are on your feet. If you're in a job where you're on your feet for most of the day, you've got a head start :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone, that is great help. Just a shame I have a job where I sit all day! :rotfl2:

i also sit down all day, am not fit but not unfit..we walked all day average of 6hrs a day at least, for pretty much 14 days straight, but the only thing i noticed was how my feet hurt by the end, not that i couldnt actually manage the walking...i would be more inclined to focus on getting a comfy pair of shoes!!
