Ready to redeem my DL AP vouchers - unsure of logistics

Have 4 vouchers (me, DH and two kids). Do my kids need to be present at ticket booth to activate them? Or just the adults?

If I don't make it as early as I'm planning, can I enter gates with these vouchers and just activate later that day? Besides AP discounts, any other downside to this? I know it works with regular vouchers but wasn't sure about the discounted ones.

I activated my voucher at the ticket kiosk. I don't know the answer to other questions. In the past, they used to let you into the park with a voucher because they had a place inside the park where you would get your photo taken-but they don't do that anymore. So, I don't know....
