Reading for Free Books

My kids are doing this and I meant to post it! Glad you did! Also, check around your cities and see what other places do this. Our public library has a program every summer where the kids earn prizes and tickets to a party at the end of summer. Our local minor league baseball team gives kids two general admission tickets for every four books they read (limit 4 tickets per kid per season).

by us we have a Provident bank and for every book read off of the summer reading list you get $5.00 up to 10 books = 50.00 depending on grade determines wheather you have to write a paragraph , draw picture , ect..
$50.00 x 5 kids great start on spending money for nov trip  :cool1: :Pinkbounc

We did this last year too-thanks-I had forgotten...

Check your libraries for their special deals with summer book clubs. Ours has all sorts of goodies for kids-coupons for free ice cream cones, paint time & a tile at a ceramic place, a free bagel, frisbees, etc. :flower:

Bummer! I just checked it out -- only for kids in grades 1 -- 6. My DS will be in Kindergarten next year.

Thanks to all of you who have been giving your local libraries a plug! :goodvibes I work at a public library as a Youth Librarian. Summer is incredibly busy for us with our Summer Reading Club. It's great to see all these kids coming in for books to read! The best thing is it's all for free (at least at our library)! Summer Reading Club is also a great think to check out if you're looking for things to do with your kids this summer. Not only can you read lots of books, but our library has at least 2 programs each week.

Enjoy your summer! Keep reading!

Barnes and Noble is offering up to two free books this summer for children who read. For each 8 books, you can pick a free book. The books you read don't have to be from there, any books will do.

Bummer it says they have to be in 1st grade. My dd is only 5 (starting K this fall), but reads at a 2-3rd grade level. She would love to earn free books.

The Barnes And Noble program is one of many great programs for summer reading. There are programs like Book Adventure that run year round where kids can get free candy bars, temporary tatoo's, books, card games, hats, and more for free just for reading and taking quizzes. Southern California residents visiting the San Diego County Fair (Del Mar Fair) can get their kids in for free just for returning book reading forms. Build A Bear stores have a summer reading program that earns kids a $10 off any animal purchase, stickers, and a free $5 accessory from the grab bag. Other programs are available not just in the summer, like Book It the famous Pizza Hut personal pizza campaign is now open to home schoolers. It's a shame we have to bribe kids to read these days. LOL

I can't open the link because I don't have a program to support the document. Is there someone who can copy and past the document into an email and send it to me? Please! My email is bblevssr@msn.com Thanks!

My daughter did the Barnes & Noble program last year (she was headed into kindergarten), and they were fine with that (they encouraged her to do it too-esp. because her older sister was doing it too-no one wants to see one child be left out of this type of an activity...). :sunny:

I printed out the form to send it to my daughter's teacher so that all the kids in her class can do this program. So many people don't know about all the FREE things their communities have to offer.

Also, if you check the bottom of this form you'll see that each child can do this TWICE! :cool1:

Happy reading!! :flower:

Very Cool,
Thanks! My DS7 who will be going into 2nd grade next year will love it.

Thanks for the info! My DS is starting kindergarten this year and reads at least at a 1st grade level. I am going to call my barnes and noble. :)

Anyone have a list of the books that are prizes? DD got the forms for this the other day at B&N but we didn't get to look at the choices. She did it two years ago and the choices were awful. So bad that she didn't even want to do it last year. Decided to give it another shot. I wonder if the selection varies by store.

I just called my Barnes & Noble and aksed if my 4 year old twins could participate. The lady was extremely nice and said that they were trying to encourage kids of all ages to read and that my kids were welcome to participate by drawing pictures or having me write their favorite parts for them. Yay!

I would assume they vary by store of what books they have in stock and have enough of. The best way to find out is to call your local Barnes & Noble Bookstore to find out.
