True, but that was an added change (party check) as well as originally that was not how it was built to work, but we're talking semantics at this point. I think it's a smart change IMHO.
I agree that it's a smart change. I was just mentioning that from a system point of view it's not just a time change. I have been testing system creations and changes for over 20 years so it's hard to turn off the 'it's just a change in time' part of my brain as I'm always shocked by how many changes need to be made behind the scenes for something like this to happen. I would anticipate many, many people have been working on this change and testing it for months now before being ready to announce it publicly.

No it's still just one party per pod

Oy voy. They can keep fiddling around with different boarding systems and new wacky ideas and different approaches, but none of this will matter if they can't figure out a way to guarantee more butts in seats in a day. The priority should be capacity at this point. I did some calculations and I think that they're running about 300 people per hour (without breakdowns). Change the boarding system around and you'll still have the same amount of winners and loser and unhappy campers. They need to do whatever they need to do to fill both rows, and they need to expand the operating hours of the ride.

The ride @yulilin3 was responding to a question above is Smuggler's Run.

Rise of the Resistance is 2 parties per vehicle as of yesterday if each party is 4 people or less.

I wonder if they will change the return time back to the 2 hour window with this change? With the way Disney transportation is I expect there will be unhappy people who get a boarding group but then don't arrive in time to use it.

I'm personally curious to see how this plays out. My next trip is in Jan and I have DHS scheduled for our first day, with the idea that we would be getting there just in time for the 2pm drop. Now I have to wonder if I should try in the morning before our flight.

I guess the worry there would be that you could get it in the AM and then aren't able to get to the park in time to use it, but can't try at 2 either.

Oh OK. That's amazing news then! That should help a lot. Maybe that's one of the reasons that they felt like they could move to this new system now. This in effect basically doubles the amount of people who can go through in a day.

With the current park opening time of 10am, that's 3 hours from the time a BG is obtained to get to the park for those who get early BG numbers. That should be ample time to get there, even IF they change the park opening time to 9am as that's still 2 hours.

Highly unlikely, except for maybe the groups called in the first hour, but even then, probably not. better to keep it at 1 and keep the line moving.

No absolutely not, if anything they should tighten it now. They want to make sure that you have every intention of going, and that you make your BG on time. The tighter they are with the BGs and the more strict they are with people, the shorter the lines have to be after you redeem your BG. If you give people way too much freedom and you lose control over when people show up, it means that you have to keep a huge surplus of people to hedge against running out of people and wasting seats. When you keep a huge surplus of people, it means that everybody else has to wait in a standby line longer than they have to.

Yes, even if the park opens and you want to change, as long as you haven't tapped in and other parks have availability, you should be able to change your park reservation. I don't think they'd have a way to tie you into that reservation just because you attempted to get a BG.

My guess is that there will be a lot of Hs cancellations at 7am crowding the other parks causing other issues?

I think that they are "experimenting" with this before the holiday crowds that will be showing up.

I'm so damn nervous about being a test subject of this on the first day...

I feel like it's risky to cancel a reservation too because you have to cancel instead of just having the modify option.

If nothing else, that might make things a little easier at the 2pm drop if less people hit the park that day.

But would you really want to be at overcrowded, underbuilt DHS without a way to get on RotR? Its not worth the trip. Without RotR its the weakest of the four parks easily, and yet its the most crowded now. I'm not sure what your situation is but lets assume that you were locked out of other reservations if you eclipsed 7 AM with a DHS one still in hand. If you're a local, but go home and do whatever you normally do with your day, and if you're a tourist, just hang by the pool, head over to Universal, or go to Disney Springs or something.

I think many would still go to see Smugglers Run and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway both very new attractions as well.
