First backup group today is 130
I just have to keep reminding myself that today is the most extreme "out of the norm" day of all. 6am open and 18 hours of operations... not sure we'll see that again until next year at this time (if at all).

Starting tomorrow we see the beginning of a return to normalcy with a 7am open and only 14 hours or operations. Then starting 1/5 and further into January a return to non-holiday crowds. I'm really excited about tracking this thread as we head into January to get a better picture of what a regular operating day will look like (in anticipation of my late January trip).

When I go Monday, will do my best to try and post on here (either afterwards or during) how it works out. I'm always iffy about the first week or two after holidays as I've gone the Monday kids returned to school and still ended up with crazy crowds. So here's hoping this year it's not too bad?

I am rope dropping again tomorrow so will update with the group info again in the morning. Then I’m back again the week of 1/19 after trying to ride at Disneyland in the morning on 1/18.

Just shy of 2pm and they are up to BG 92. They appear to be back on track.

My rough estimation is that they are 30 groups behind yesterday’s pace.
ABOVE is yesterday at 1:53pm. They are at BG 92 today at 12:11pm so they are well ahead of yesterday's pace which called back 179 BGs by 7pm.

I am hoping after the New Years crowd dies down and kids start back into school it will normalize some. We actually put an "alternate" park hopping game plan together today just in case it really doesn't change any.

Gotta say, I thought I was just going to roll into Disney and get on RotR - boy have you guys woke me up to how I've got to do it! Coming Jan 17th - picked it because it should be a slower day, less waiting, etc. From CT for a super short trip to FL. Based on days of reading this thread I think I know exactly what to do. My comment/question is for rteetz, that spreadsheet you post is amazing! How do you get this data? Is it publicly available somewhere? As the time gets closer to our trip, that spreadsheet will dictate when we need to arrive. But I'm so surprised Disney gives this info out. Anyway, keep up the great work!
I hope you're right, because January 18-20th is a Holiday weekend (Martin Luther King Jr. day). Hopefully the crowds don't start until Saturday!

Sayhello

Got backup 207 around 10:30 this morning. We have a sick kiddo and skipped RD, but I saw that BGs were still open so we took the SL over just to tap in. Will report back if our group is called today.

Not sure if DHS ever really reaches capacity/park closure levels, but curiosity has me wondering if it does reach capacity would having a Backup Boarding Group enable you to get in?

Good question. No idea really though.

This is our plan! We are hoping that so many people will be tired from this evenings festivities, that we will be able to not have quite as much craziness tomorrow morning.

anyone else going tomorrow morning?
We will be there! With 7 sleepy teenagers! Hoping for earlier BG so we can take long naps!

That's when i will be heading down and staying for 10 days. Figured the marathon crowd will fizzle out the week of the 13th.
I'm also heading down that week (and early the following week of MLK) with my planned DHS day being 1/15. I'm actually encouraged that even with the crazy crowds now, it still seems very doable to get a boarding group. I'm actually more focused on the rope drop ride order than getting a boarding group. I'd actually prefer a mid or late morning BG so as not to interfere with early morning rides.

I’m the same as you with wanting to get mid morning early afternoon fastpass! Our HS days are Jan 21 and Jan 24... so hoping the MLK crowds die down by then!

Today’s data point -

Up at 4:30, in BLT lobby by 5. Walked over to the Contemporary while checking Uber, but a bus pulled right up.

I didn’t catch what time we got through security and into the park, but it was very quick. Still just a tap, no fingers. We were camping between Trolley Car and Brown Derby by 5:45.

Again my sister beat me and got BG 16, I got BG 45. Verizon vs AT&T maybe?

We were called at 8:45, and yes, still worth it.

Is there a reason you guys didn’t add each other into the group when the first person got through?
