We are headed down to WDW in 10 days. On our DHS morning day, they are calling for an 8am opening. I am hoping it moves to a 7am. We have an ADR at BOG at 2pm that day. So hoping we can get a good boarding group for ROTR, sneak in a ride on MFSR and then head over to Magic Kingdom in time.

That's when i will be heading down and staying for 10 days. Figured the marathon crowd will fizzle out the week of the 13th.

Just a note...if your coming after jan4th, and not on Presidents day week/easter week, then your giving yourself anxiety for nothing. It will be hectic and crowded for sure, but you wont have 9000-12000 people at rope drop and BG will probably last an hour. All this data from Dec 23rd to Jan 2nd is a result of the busiest travel week.
I'm glad someone said this. We'll be there around the 8th and the latest from this thread is definitely increasing my anxiety levels lol.

We are going to be at WDW MLK weekend. I picked MLK day the 20th to get to HS early in order to be inside before opening to get a ROTR boarding group. I'm thinking it won't be quite as bad of a madhouse then vs trying it on Sat or Sun since some may be headed home that day and be unable to commit a great deal of time waiting for their boarding group to be called. I'm planning for the worst hoping for the best.
I am also coming that weekend (and most of the following week). But it will be Sunday for my first day, mainly because I can't wait. Although it will be holiday crowds in a sense, it probably won't compare to the craziness of late December crowds.

No reason to let it worry you even based on this week. It’s the busiest week of the year and still very easy to get a boarding group, just get there before the park opens. Not a huge amount by any means. Matter of fact, if you get there after they’ve opened the gates but before they open the park for operation then you let the initial rush clear out and walk up to no lines to get in either bag check or turnstyles. So it’s really quite great, provided you can handle the 6:00 am open. Even with 8:00 or 9:00 am it would work the same.

Even with this very busy week, if you can get through the gates slightly before opening to be ready to go, you're almost guaranteed to ride that day unless there is a fairly long lasting tech issue combined with a lack of fix on Disney's end either during or afterwards (I would be politely insisting they make up for an issue on their end if one caused us to miss out).

For people who do not have solid plans yet, I think the best thing to do to keep it stress free is keep your DHS day as wide open as you can, making sure you do not book can't miss ADRs and FP that day, unless they are also in DHS.

Maybe once things calm a bit I think letting people after they ride join a backup BG if there are stuff some available would be ok. But at least for initial BGs I think one a day for the foreseeable future is best
If they could get BGs (or backup BGs) to be available past noon, keeping it to 1 BG / day would let people who started their day at another park or those on the “mid-day Magic” tickets to have a chance to ride. They could do what you you’re suggesting (and I know you may not even be in favor of that, just pointing out what’s possible) but I personally think it would be better to stick with 1 per day until they decide to abandon VQ altogether. (And this is coming from somebody who is an everyday Rope-Dropper who could benefit from being allowed to ride more than once).

Nah; they'll all be joining us over at DL for opening ROTR there! :) We're planning to go the following weekend Jan 25-27 for a go and compare to HS ROTR. :)

The BG process for RoR is 1000% less stressful than worrying about fitting a crazy 5+ hour standby line into your plans if you weren't prepared to hit HS at 4am.

Honestly I'm entirely impressed about everything related to RoR. Well Done!

I agree - except for stressing about the technology working. That is really the only thing that has me stressed for our upcoming trip that my app won't work or something else will go wrong

But outside of that element I think it is a really efficient structure

If first priority is getting a BG but we want to rope drop Rnrc and ToT where is the best place for us to be waiting after tapping in? Are people heading that way held somewhere different or is everyone in the same place whether going to SWGE, TSL, or that way?

Plan the back up day if possible to help ease that stress :) And like you said earlier, leave yourself extra time to make it inside HS before official open in case transport or bag check holds you up.

Sometimes guests are all held right before Sunset Blvd by the Starbucks.

Now with so many people arriving early, HS is letting guests further into the park before official open. You can go down Sunset Blvd and be held closer to RnRc/ToT. People going to TSL and SWGE are being held up by the Chinese Theatre.

I’m not sure when reached 179 but that’s where they are now and the “gap” has closed so it’s possible they’ve been there for awhile and that is the end for today.

EDIT: 179 was called around 7:00pm and was indeed the end.

Or you happen to be a lucky kid with a too short sibling. My older kid is darn lucky- double rides on everything.

Don't let him get too used to it. I know from experience that little brothers grow up!
