Through tapstiles at 5:55am and got boarding group 38 right at 6am. Have been in line for Smugglers Run ever since (It’s currently 7:30). They snake the line all through and around Batuu.

If you click on my status it should show you in the batch of details which group is the first backup group
It shows that groups 120 and after will be called if available, but my estimated wait time shows that my bg of 113 is a back up group. Hope that helps.

Same here. We’re BG 101 (iPhone glitched). Showing us as Backup now; although app clearly shows group 120 and above as Backups.

We were about 3/4 of the way up towards the front of the rope drop crowd. At 6am, we got BG25. I opened the app just as the opening music played with the announcement - about 3 seconds before 6am.

6:20am Boarding 14-16
At some point before 6:20 all BGs filled

We headed straight to MFSR the moment they let the crowd move. We weaved like crazy through the crowd getting in front of a lot of people. We were snaking through the extended queue by 6:10am and ended up in the actual line (not extended queue) right about 6:20am. Off the ride by 6:50ish. So about a 30 min line that was mostly continuously moving.

BG25 was called at 6:26am (not sure why I have been given until 9:26 to return) but we decided to go ride Aliens Swirling Saucers with a 35 min wait (actual wait 30 mins) at 7am. Then had breakfast at Woody's and now headed back to ride RotR :)

Thanks for all of the help!! We got to the park at 5, got in around 5:35 and right at 6 am got boarding group 28. Ride is currently down, but we’re excited! Don’t forget that if your whole party doesn’t show up on the boarding group page, select all that do show up; and you can add the rest of your group with the help of a cast member.

I’m not sure what the first was but I’m at backup group 113. I was in the park 25 min prior to open and the my Disney app would not refresh to reflect that the park was open. Approx a dozen other iPhone users around me had the same issues. Very frustrating to say the least. And to now here that the ride is down...

That is frustrating. As much as I like the Boarding Group concept as a whole this is an issue with it. Someone who is there well before park opening and trying to access the system right as it opens shouldn't only have a non-guaranteed BG due to technical issues

Agree with this. I am taking my son the weekend of January 24, which is the weekend after MLK. Hoping the crowds have died down some by then. Park is currently scheduled to open at 8 that Saturday, but we are going to make sure we are at the gates early enough to be near the front of the rope drop crowd for MFSR.

Because this is a one park trip solely to see Galaxy's Edge, we basically have one shot to get a boarding group. You can bet that if I have any kind of technical issues that prevent me from getting a BG, I will be at guest services registering a complaint. It's one thing to get a higher number or backup BG due to the luck of the draw when everything is working fine, but if there is any kind of technical issue, I think it is on Disney to rectify that situation.

We entered the line at 9:18am (first time we tried a half hour earlier it was closed). It was slow going at first by now at 9:30 it is moving well.

i would hunt for a CM asap if u can’t get in after 5 mins. All BGs were gone before 6:20am (not sure exactly when)

yeah, we only have one day at DHS for our trip as well ... plan is for both my wife and I to try to get in and we will also be searching for ang GET team member (so those wearing blue shirts that are out and around - not at the tent) and try to be near one at around park opening time so if there are any issues we can go right to them ... if that means we aren't as close to the front of the rope drop area for trying to get on other rides, then oh well

This might have helped me. I had restarted my phone the morning on the way to the park. We arrived in the parking lot at 5:30am, in the park by 5:45am and worked our way quite far up the street.

I forgot to position us near the blue shirt CMs.

i went on timeanddate.com and counted down the seconds. I did not have my app open. About 3 seconds before 6am, they made the opening announcement and I immediately opened the app and went through the steps. I got BG25. My DH tried the refresh method and got stuck in that for 3+ mins. My DD opened the app like I did and was about a minute behind me.

We headed straight for MFSR and it was about a 30 min wait even though I thought we were quite far ahead.

Left bwv 5:10am. Through tap @ 5:40. Group 31. Stayed right and we moved quickly. Didn’t open app till 6. On A&TT. Refresh your cell towers by rebooting your phone the day before. Power off and power on for iPhone. My daughter and I both tried she got in before me within seconds.
People are getting here earlier, no doubt. Saturday we walked alone at 5:10am, today we walked with tons in front and behind. Much more people waiting once we got there. Very competitive environment, Which is understandable given everyone making a huge sacrifice on valuable vacation time.

ride appears down at the moment. but it’s without a doubt worth it. Never seen anything like this. Make the sacrifice for the memory with your family.

Is it just me or does the wait for MFSR seem extra crazy the past few days? Seems like if you're anywhere near the back of the pack at rope drop you're in for a long wait.

How would you run the situation then? The math stinks no matter what Disney does. Open at 5 or 8 there will be competition for the small number of slots and the ride still is going through shakedown period.and prone to shutdowns.

It's the busiest week of the year, if people would wait until the end of the night the line is very manageable

I'm in the same situation, down to the date. Fingers crossed crowds won't be insane post-holiday, but I'm still worried. We have no problem being early birds, but I may even get my mom's phone set up with my MDE account just in case of technical difficulties. Gonna be a nail biter for sure - my mom really wants to experience this ride (and so do I!!).
