Through tapstiles at 5:55am and got boarding group 38 right at 6am. Have been in line for Smugglers Run ever since (It’s currently 7:30). They snake the line all through and around Batuu.
It shows that groups 120 and after will be called if available, but my estimated wait time shows that my bg of 113 is a back up group. Hope that helps. If you click on my status it should show you in the batch of details which group is the first backup group
Same here. We’re BG 101 (iPhone glitched). Showing us as Backup now; although app clearly shows group 120 and above as Backups. It shows that groups 120 and after will be called if available, but my estimated wait time shows that my bg of 113 is a back up group. Hope that helps.
But what about the first backup group?
I’m not sure what the first was but I’m at backup group 113. I was in the park 25 min prior to open and the my Disney app would not refresh to reflect that the park was open. Approx a dozen other iPhone users around me had the same issues. Very frustrating to say the least. And to now here that the ride is down...
That is frustrating. As much as I like the Boarding Group concept as a whole this is an issue with it. Someone who is there well before park opening and trying to access the system right as it opens shouldn't only have a non-guaranteed BG due to technical issues
Agree with this. I am taking my son the weekend of January 24, which is the weekend after MLK. Hoping the crowds have died down some by then. Park is currently scheduled to open at 8 that Saturday, but we are going to make sure we are at the gates early enough to be near the front of the rope drop crowd for MFSR.
Because this is a one park trip solely to see Galaxy's Edge, we basically have one shot to get a boarding group. You can bet that if I have any kind of technical issues that prevent me from getting a BG, I will be at guest services registering a complaint. It's one thing to get a higher number or backup BG due to the luck of the draw when everything is working fine, but if there is any kind of technical issue, I think it is on Disney to rectify that situation.

Left bwv 5:10am. Through tap @ 5:40. Group 31. Stayed right and we moved quickly. Didn’t open app till 6. On A&TT. Refresh your cell towers by rebooting your phone the day before. Power off and power on for iPhone. My daughter and I both tried she got in before me within seconds.
People are getting here earlier, no doubt. Saturday we walked alone at 5:10am, today we walked with tons in front and behind. Much more people waiting once we got there. Very competitive environment, Which is understandable given everyone making a huge sacrifice on valuable vacation time.
ride appears down at the moment. but it’s without a doubt worth it. Never seen anything like this. Make the sacrifice for the memory with your family.
Is it just me or does the wait for MFSR seem extra crazy the past few days? Seems like if you're anywhere near the back of the pack at rope drop you're in for a long wait.We headed straight for MFSR and it was about a 30 min wait even though I thought we were quite far ahead.
How would you run the situation then? The math stinks no matter what Disney does. Open at 5 or 8 there will be competition for the small number of slots and the ride still is going through shakedown period.and prone to shutdowns.Agree with this. It's the busiest week of the year, if people would wait until the end of the night the line is very manageableIs it just me or does the wait for MFSR seem extra crazy the past few days? Seems like if you're anywhere near the back of the pack at rope drop you're in for a long wait.
I'm in the same situation, down to the date. Fingers crossed crowds won't be insane post-holiday, but I'm still worried. We have no problem being early birds, but I may even get my mom's phone set up with my MDE account just in case of technical difficulties. Gonna be a nail biter for sure - my mom really wants to experience this ride (and so do I!!).Agree with this. I am taking my son the weekend of January 24, which is the weekend after MLK.
