Today was the day! Left our room at the Boardwalk at 6:02. At bag check at 6:17. Through in less than 5 minutes. Tapping in was longer, but we were in the park a minute or two before 6:40. Got to explain the process to a few women behind us who though they would just be getting in line for the ride!

Anyway, all to say that at crunch time I was ready and nervous, but thanks to everyone here, I scored boarding group 3!!!!!! I was shocked! I think I screamed.

And the ride was amazing!!!!!

What transportation did you use from Boardwalk?

interesting thought, and would make sense as, as we have discussed many times, if you are there, in the park, ready to go prior to opening, unless you hit a major technical glitch, you should get your request in within the first minute - so, basically covers everyone that got there for park opening and then those that come after get a back-up (personally I would prefer like 2 or 3 minutes to account for any potential tech glitches, but still ... makes sense overall
Which is why I'm still totally baffled at just how many people leaving for HS at 5:00 AM. If they are trying for something stand by I get it but if it's just for a BG, I'm baffled. All that standing around waiting, first to get in security and then to get in the park and then to wait on sign up to open. That's a whole lot of sleep that could be had, LOL
And there's at least one blog that suggests just to get a boarding group you arrive 1 hour before opening. No mention of a stand by ride, that is just for a BG. Just wasting the readers time

So, we are staying at YC July 4-11. My original plan was to head to HS on the 5th to see if we can get a BG. Since we are there a week I figure if we didn't do it this day we can plan for another day. Do you think that is insane to try this on 4th of July weekend? Should I just shoot for a day later in the week?

If experiencing RotR is important to you I would try as many days as possible

Shouldn't make any difference quite honestly. As long as you can get there before it opens, providing nothing changes by then, there's no reason you can't get a BG. I had no problems a couple days after Christmas. It won't be more crowded over July 4
That leaves you time for other days later in the trip too, if you want

Yeah, we are going to get there early as we want to rope drop MFSR but even with that we are likely to only get there about an hour early

4th of July craziness mostly only applies for MK and Epcot. (And MK on the 3rd). Otherwise early July almost seems more reasonable than October.

The night of the 4th used to be crazy at DHS because it was 1 of 2 nights of the year with DHS fireworks and you basically had to be in the main hub.

Now you can see DHS fireworks in TSL and it might be cool watching fireworks in parts of SWGE, now....but I’m not sure if DHS still has a special July 4th show.

If you are planning on going to MK, then you want to arrive by noon which doesn’t leave much time to ride. If you plan on Epcot fireworks, then you are probably good.

Very interesting that they are starting the boarding groups with a much lower number now. Used to be they started around 10, now I see consistent reports of 3 (or lower? - haven't been paying super close attention to The Chart :duck:). Just... interesting.

They could just have it set up now where at minute one the regular bg close regardless and it goes into backups. So, yes, lower groups means less people trying at opening
Interesting. I know that I am only speaking from an observation standpoint, but I like the boarding groups vs. fastpass. I like the excitement it creates, and I also feel it seems a more "fair" process. It seems that everyone who wants to experience ROTR and puts that desire into action by getting to park at open, gets to ride. Unless there are major down-times during the day. Also, boarding groups (when I mentioned to my family) seems to add to the mystique of "visiting Batuu". :) Maybe just me.

Got BG 3!!!.....Had app already opened and clicked “My Status” at 7:00:04, got boarding group 3!!! ( Was super surreal as no one else was celebrating but me and my husband )
7:10am boarding group was called (1 hour return window )
Rode Slinky Dog at 7:19
Rode alien swirling saucer at 7:23 am
In line at 7:35 am for Rise
Experience started at 7:42 am
Off the experience at 8:02am
Awesome! I'd be like "sooooooo now what?" Haha. Nap time until Epcot opens??
Security was a breeze (LOVED that they had a few lines for stroller free guests). ......In the queue, but “all missions are delayed.” Just heard rations should be coming soon. I have nowhere to be today, so not a big deal, just hate standing still.
9:06 update: still delayed. Vi Moradi is now going through the queue interacting with guests. Had a nice interaction with her and got a pic (she has a photopass photographer with her).
9:29 update: after rations (bottled water, chips, bananas, and I think popcorn were offered), we are moving. A little bit.
Now, that's pretty cool. I wouldn't want to be delayed but were the snacks free?
Sorry to report, just stopped in Droid Depot and they confirmed that they no longer have the Spira coins.
Noooooooooooooo whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy **sobbing** 3 days before I go?!

I really like the idea of new/very popular attractions not taking up a limited FP space or having to worry about snagging one in advance. I wouldn’t be mad if moderately popular ones went stand by only at first (like MFSR), and the ones with 60+ minute waits opening with virtual queues.

If a BG with 1hr return and Oga's rez conflict, have GET been giving a FP for RoTR or changing the BG or changing Oga's? Anyone experienced this overlap yet?

many have reported all WDW reservation locations have been lenient with times, specifically at SWGE Savi's is the only one where it's a bit more problematic
