A little of both, I think simply because there were a couple of things, even though I try to avoid spoilers, but I had seen. Had it not been for those expectations, I doubt I would have noticed anything. I think we were in B mode, but I don’t believe we completely skipped anything.

So, just to share my experience from last week. We were in HS on Tuesday and Friday. On Tuesday, people around us had their BG before we could even try for it. We got group 85 which was the last regular group that day. They also had problems with the ride that day and didn’t board anyone until after 1. Our group was called at 5:52 and they were adding about a group every minute or two. The line to get on the ride was crazy and it took over an hour. We got in the line right around 6 and got off at 7:50. The up side was we scurried over to Smugglers Run and it was almost walk on.
On Friday my select boarding group became available at 6:59 am and we got BG 19. The ride was running well that day and our BG was called at 7:20 with a two hour window. The line was normal and from scan in until ride finish it was just over 30 minutes. Big difference from Tuesday.

we are all following everyone's reports. It seems like people called the first hour got the 1 hour return time, everyone else, so far today, has gotten 2 hours

I have BG 87 and it says 1 hour but I haven’t gotten called back yet. It seems to be stuck on 81.

DH keeps showing me social media posts where this or that football player or other VIP was at WDW the last few days. Any possibility that some of the late starts and frequent “breakdowns” the last few days have been related to VIP tours vs. actual attraction issues? I’ve read the reports above of parts of it not working but wondering if there won’t be so many interruptions once the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl stop bringing a lot of VIPs into town.

Can't help but suspect that this move - Disney introducing 1 hour window returns is simply a precursor to FP+ replacing BG's in the future.

Don't see any relationship. The 1 hour make it possible to tweak end of the day and get early BP groups to RotR before the do anything else. Disney will add FP when it makes sense to Disney.

No. But we were given access about a minute earlier. We didn’t get the button to push until 7 on Tuesday and got it at 6:59 on Friday. It seems kind of random. From the sounds of people cheering around us on Tuesday, they got their boarding groups before we even got the select button.

I thought that even VIP groups had to get a BG/that this was not included in VIP tours? Or has that changed?

They stop calling groups when it breaks down. They will start calling them again when it comes back online.

Presumably there’s a different set of rules for regular people VIP groups and (certain) celebrity VIP groups.

VIP Tours that anyone can book, yes - they have to plan to be in the park and join a BG like everyone else.

The PP is talking about celebrity-level or special interest group VIPs (eg, NFL Pro Bowl players there this week, Neil Patrick Harris awhile back, etc).

Although my guess is that if they were hosting a large enough special group they would do it pre park opening (like that TA thing awhile back) or after park closing. Some brief pauses to slip in any special folks during the day likely wouldn’t be a material factor for any delay, in my opinion.

Does anyone know if practicing on the Disneyland app is the same process as MDE? Seeing how it works at opening for myself seems much more reasonable at 11 AM my time than 6, lol.
