So I don't know if I just haven't checked during the window being open before or not, but I was a bit surprised this morning. When I went to check the MDE app this morning out of my usual curiosity, the "Join a Boarding Group" button was not greyed out. It let me click, warned that I was joining a backup boarding group, and let me select myself and click "Join a Boarding Group". It then told me I wasn't in the park (I'm at home in Ohio) and wouldn't let me actually join. Is that how it's always worked?

I think that’s how it always worked. I saw reports a week or two ago about people doing this. But ultimately, they couldn’t complete the final step because they hadn’t entered the park.

Looks like similar to the past days in that the tapstyles open around 30 mins prior to posted open time but then you are held in the main Street until official park open time when they have "rope drop" and "app drop" when you can join a BG

Actually today we weren't held at main st. The park oppened at same time as tapstiles. BG did not open until 7am.

Correct. I was too nervous to go on anything for fear of missing 7am BG open, but yes everything was running.

Basically are you tapped in already in the park then at 7am you can try and get a BG? Or have they gone back to opening the park & BG’s at the same time?

We decided to brave the weather and wake up early to get a boarding group for ROTR. We left AKL at 5:30 and took a Lyft to Hollywood Studios. Got to Hollywood at 5:45. It poured rain intermittently so not a pleasant experience in 60 degree darkness. Tapped in at 6:40. On phone at 7:00 sharp to reserve BG. Didn’t get one until 7:02 but snagged 28! Worth every minute! Filled all BG’s by approximately 7:35.

Monday! We took a boat from Swan/Dolphin at 6am. Got there at 6:13. Let us in at 6:33. Tapped in at 6:45. Got BG 31. Called us at 8. We were in Oga’s and we are in line now. I think they are up to 43 at 9:14.

Filled all BG’s by approximately 7:35.

So initial BGs reportedly filled by 7:35am. Backups are still available. Yesterday, I believe they got to virtually all of the backups -- I don't believing in jinxing

When the morning starts on a BG that's not 1, does that possibly mean that a VIP group got in first? I think thrill data reported first BG was 13 today.

Arrive at HS at 6:23am
Bag check was quick then we waited between security and ticket booth until park opened at 6:30am.
Tapped in at 6:47am - stayed right.
Tried to get boarding group at 7am, but didn't get it until 7:02.

We arrived in the lot around 6:15 this morning. Crowd was back past the second overhang area and it was raining pretty hard. Lots of umbrella users dumping water on you and/or poking you in the head.

I wanted to say, “Hey, you know all that water that isn’t hitting your head? Yeah, that’s what you just dumped down my back, thanks.”

Scanned into the park by 6:55. BGs opened at 7:00 or 7:01. Finger print scan didn’t work on my phone because it was wet. Tapping the app was also tough with a soaked screen. Got a BG at 7:03 and got BG 35.

Group called around 8:50. We got in line at 9 and 23 min later, heading into the first preshow

It's interesting how some slightly later claim times get earlier BGs.

The only day that has started with BG 1 has been Sunday's so not sure if they just had it set up that way

Looks like backup BGs are full at 9:30am

waiting for BG 50 to be called; they’re up to 44. We had a Soarin FP for 9:50-10:50 but managed to see a guest experience person who changed it to anytime. Those people are magical!

Update: SR had a posted wait of 50 min, was off ride in 35 min. Group was called while we were on the ride. In queue for RoTR at 7:50.

Off ride and 8:28...OMG!! coming again tomorrow

I hear you! We had the same reaction and did it two days in a row--Dec 13 and 14. Can't wait to go again in May . . . because twice is not enough!

People who ‘know’ their phones know that finger biometrics open up their phones and apps in phones.

It has nothing to do with entering Studios.

For most, a data point to consider is that at noon time, if all is going well with the attraction, BG 60-70 is somewhat normal. So if your boarding group is over 70, it's fairly safe to conclude your morning is free to do other things.
