I just took a look at this thread which I initially passed by as I don't rent or buy points. Actually I rented points one time and it was to a trusted friend. I like the new rules as I've always resented people who find a way to circumvent the original intention of DVC which is for personal use and not as a way to make money by purchasing with the intent of only renting. These were probably the posters who only visited the R/T board and never contributed anywhere else. We all can come up short and need to buy extra points or we can all have a change in life circumstances where we might need to rent out our points. I'm glad for the future option to be able to do so here as I would definitely want someone to know me first. Trust goes both ways too!---Kathy

FWIW, I do consider posts on the RRA Board. The posts are removed, but the names of the contributors are listed in each thread. It's a quick search to see if a poster contributes there and IMO, it can make a difference when someone is "close".

I am pleased to hear that. I would love to see more people contribute to the Resort Reservation Availability Board. I can't tell you how many times I lie awake at night thinking, "Hmmm, I wonder if we could still get in for MLK weekend," or something like that. It would be nice to be able to have a quick check. Though I know it shouldn't be completely relied upon, it would also help people wanting to rent points from others to know when they are asking the nearly impossible (and have a back-up plan), and THAT would help people renting out their points to make fewer MS phone calls. And THAT would help everybody!

Think of the DIS as though it were a shopping mall. The malls welcome the public and even offer events to attract them, but they do not allow individuals to set up a booth and start selling things to those who visit the malls without meeting some criteria.

This is a great analogy, but I am left with a couple of questions.

50 posts. Some count, some do not. I understand this part.

But now depending on the moderator, a differently standard will apply as to which count and which do not. Chuck S, does not accept posts to the availability board but CarolMN does. This is very ambiguous.

If you are setting up a mall and vendors would like to participate in the commercial enterprise, and you set (permit) requirements things might go smoother if the permit requirements are clear, understandable, and consistent.

Also, I was amused at the advise to "quit worrying about what counts and what doesn't." If it were up to me every post would count. It is not my rule to exclude certain types of posts. Also, I am not the one reviewing 6 months of posting history to determine which posts can be excluded.

While I agree with CarolMN that the RRA board contributes, there is no way to quantify those posts. In other words, we mods could take the additional time to open all of the past 6 months worth of RRA posts, look to see if a particular poster posted...but there is no way to know how many posts a particular poster may have made, or if they made multiple RRA submissions during and particular RRA month. And surely, if we count RRA posts, you'd want to be sure they all counted, no?

It is simply something the moderators have not yet discussed, and you are asking for hard and fast rules for something that doesn't go into effect until February 1st. If in doubt, simply don't count any posts you make to the RRA board in the meantime, and if we do decide to count them, you've got a bonus count. I mean really, anyone that wants to post the bare minimum for R/T Board approval, and has to know months in advance exactly which posts will count has no real interest in being a part of the DIS community, but is obviously keeping an exact tally only for their own personal gain. If people are a few posts short, they will simply receive a PM asking them to make 5 or 6 more posts and to resubmit their R/T thread. They still, though, need to demonstrate a posting pattern over the previous 6 months.

While the broader rules are set and in place, we are still discussing the finer points of the implementation.

And really, the RRA board will be obsolete as soon as the promised real time online booking system goes live, so the RRA boards days are numbered, no matter our decision about counting any posts. Also if any MS Operating system updates come out in the meantime that prevent Caskbill's programs from running, the RRA board will likely no longer be viable, as everything would need to be processed manually.

As a user of the Disboards for many years, but mostly as a lurker, info gatherer, I believe that the new(er) rules are too stringent. We have only rarely used the rent/trade board over the years, but do consider it a useful tool.

I feel as though my years of patronage are not valued by the site as I come, I browse, I read, I visit some of the sponsor sights, but because I do not post I am not considered relevant?

The Dis may make as many rules as it wants and I will follow them, but understand that not all rules are good rules and some deserve rethinking from time to time. This may be one of them.
