I get mildly motion sick, mostly if I look down (while reading) in the car for too long.
I've read a lot of positive things about Boninie for motion sickness so I may try Star Tours using this raved about medicine.
I just don't know what to expect as I've never been on any kind of simulator ride. I don't get sick on medium-thrill (older type) rollercoasters. How do the effects of Star Tours compare to that of a rollercoaster?

I don't suffer from motion sickness but I'm going to guess that a simulator ride like Body Wars or Star Tours is worse for motion sickness than a roller coaster. It's more like riding in a car but you do have a screen to focus on, so if you don't get car sick if you don't read you most likely won't get motion sick on this ride.

Hopefully a fellow motion sickness sufferer will have some advice for you :)

I guess I suffer from a mild form of motion sickness. Riding in the backseat of a car almost always makes me sick. Other than that, I don't have any problems. I can ride any roller coaster and never get sick. Star Tours and Body Wars, however, make me VERY sick! I will never ride either of those again! I'm also worried about Mission Space, but I will probably try it once!

I suffer from very bad motion sickness but by taking Meclizine the night before I fly out to WDW and Every night, till after my flight home.

I can ride any of the WDW rides. Even the simulator rides. But after having been seated in all rows of Star Tours I can tell you that the
first row causes the worst Motion Sickness.
The Back row is the most violent ride and is BAD for backs and Motion Sickness.
The 2 middle rows are great fun!!

The same goes for Body Wars.

Star Tours is the only motion simulator I've been able to handle, all the others I get off and I'm totally green and can't move for an hour. Granted I hadn't taken meds before hand, but to me they just aren't worth it regardless. I think Star Tours is a bit more mild, Body Wars and Back to the Future at Universal were by far the worst for me, I sat for 3 hours on the sidewalk after getting off of that one. You can't just close your eyes, the seats are still moving, rocking, jolting. A rollercoaster just goes, whips, is seamless and air is on your face, like when you open a car window if you are feeling a bit carsick, not in a simulator, you are closed in and it can get warm. Some of the newer ones offer seats that don't move, so you can watch the movie, but not sit in a motion chair, that's what I do, if not, its just not worth it to me, but I'll do pretty much any roller coaster. Good luck.

While Body Wars makes me really sick to my stomach, Star Tours doesn't bother me at all. It just doesn't seem as wild or something. I can't really put my finger on it, but others on these boards have said they can do ST, but not BW.

ST isn't at all like a roller coaster. It's a simulator ride where you sit in a moving "theater" and are shown a movie - based on Star Wars. This ride is also very short in duration. So even if you're starting to feel nauseous, it will be over quickly.

Try Meclizine - it does work wonders for motion sickness or any type of equilibrium problem.:D

Can't do rollercoasters...Can't read in the car...Don't like the backseat...never had a problem with either ST or BW. I guess everybody is a little different. The only way to know would be to try it once. I'd start with ST as I think BW is a bit more movement. JMO

I rode Star Tours once ~ never again!! I was soooo ill and had to sit down for ages afterwards till I felt better. Have been on many rollercoasters, Hulk, Dueling Dragons, Kraken, Rock 'n' Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror and never felt anywhere as bad as I did on Star Tours.

Hope this helps?

I think Star Tours is about the only ride at all the parks that really bothers me. I keep my eyes closed the whole time and still feel sick by the time it's over. Body wars doesn't get me as bad. It seems like it's not as long as Star Tours. I definitely agree that the front row is the worse row to sit in for Star Tours!! I can do any ride once but I think I'm going to be skipping Star Tours from now on.

ST and BW make me violently ill. I never do them anymore because it's not worth the risk. Your whole day can be ruined. I take Dramamine and have no problem with RnR, ToT, etc. It's the simulators that I can't handle (and I don't even want to entertain the idea of the teacups). However, you know your body best. As you will see, some can handle the simulators but not the roller coasters and vice versa.

My wife has always made me feel like I was the only person who can't handle Motion Simulators! I can't wait to tell her about this thread.:p

Rollercoasters don't bother me anywhere near as much as the Simulators. Maybe next time I'll try some meds.;)

I use meclizine and can handle RNR and BTMRR. I can't do the simulators. In all honesty, I haven't tried in the past few years because of how sick I got the first time I did them. I am wondering about Primeval Whirl and Mission Space. How do those compare to the coasters/simulators? I swore that I would never do Space Mountain again due to the jerking but RNR is awesome. Anyone with similar experiences?

I can't handle any rollercoaster more wild than BTRR, even that one is hard to handle, and I have never had a problem with Star Tours. The first few times I did Star Tours, I found that closing my eyes made it very bearable. That is the advantage to motion simulators. JMHO.

It's interesting to read about the extent of motion sickness in Body Wars. My 5 year old daughter, who is rather into body stuff, (her favorite bedtime reading at 3 years old was a book called INFECTIONS OF THE MIDDLE EAR) which her doctor gave her because she was asking so many questions about her ear infections), keeps on reminding me to include it on our trip in late April. We've never been to WDW. So, it's interesting to read abou the comparisons. I have a feeling it's too intense a motion for her. Today, for example, we went on a motor boat and she asked her grandfather to curtail the excursion because of the "bumps". Of course, she's not yet 5, but it leaves me concerned and wondering.

Has anyone tried this ride with a youngster?

KIS

When DB and I were younger, our parents took us on Body Wars. DDad and DB turned green, threw up and were out of commission for the remainder of the day. I did not throw up, but had a horrible feeling all day. I would not recommend taking your DD on this if she experienced the feeling of motion sickness on a boat. Body Wars jerks your body all over the place and for a young child, who is so small, this can be really intense. The visuals make it even worse (this is why some people close their eyes). I still til this day cannot ride these motion simulators and don't think it's worth it to try them unless you're certain you can handle them. Losing a whole day in the parks is not a fun experience.

Just got back from WDW and I can tell you that I got motion sickness from Star Tours. i don't normally get motion sickness but the simulated rides really got to me. i was able to ride the Aerosmith Rock and Rollar coaster and had no problems!!! Good luck!!!!!

Having not been to the park and having responsibility for a 5 y.o's welfare, despite her intent to go on an adventure through someone's body ("in imagination", as she'd say), I am really leaning towards telling her that she has to wait until she's older. She fits the height requirement, but still....

Has anyone had success on these rides, specifically the Body Wars, with young children?

KIS

My 4 yr old LOVED Star Tours. She did not feel at all dizzy. However, the video in Body Wars made her a little woozy. I say, if your child meets the height requirements AND wants to go, let her. In the worst case scenario, it's really not that long a ride.

Punkin,

What exactly made your 4 y.o. woozy on the Body Wars?

Yesterday, my daughter requested soon after leaving the dock on her grandfather's motorboat that he return the boat immediately to the dock. She thought it was "too bumpy". Prior to that I was advocating, like you, for her to go on this ride because she thought it sounded so fascinating. Now, I wonder. She also talked on and on about the motorboat ride, too. Her grandfather, of course, complied with her wishes. I don't know much about WDW having never gone before, but I suspect they won't stop the ride because she wants it get off midway or even just after it begins.

I appreciate your opinion. I'm still thinking this through myself.

How long is the Body Wars ride, anyway?
