RCI Exchange Question

My husband and I are considering doing an RCI weekly exchange in 2012 to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary.

If I deposit the points into RCI today (or in the near future), can I deposit 2011 June use year points for an exchange that we would hope to do for 2012?

Not only do I want to deposit the points, but I would also like to have them start seeing if there is availability for the resort we want.

Any help that you all can provide would be greatly appreciated!

We have never done an RCI exchange before and did not purchase our DVC to do this necessarily. However, we saw a resort that we really want to try in 2012, but would love to use 2011 use year points (if possible). If not possible, no big deal as we will use 2012 use year points.

Thanks.

And belated Merry Christmas to you all!

You have 2 options, deposit first and request first. Given the info you've posted, I'd do a request first. Normally points are taken in the UY that the travel occurs but if this is in your 2012 UY, you could deposit 2011 points into 2012. I normally recommend not trying to second guess hold the points for an exchange, in this case that means to make sure you don't miss your banking deadline. IF you decided on deposit first, you'd have 2 years from a future date (? the next 1 Jan) to exchange AND travel.

Thank you for the additonal information.

Which resort?

We're interested in the Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort in St. Lucia.

We're interested in the Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort in St. Lucia.

It looks like this resort trades with II and RCI.

It also appears that exchange deposits for this resort have been sighted as early as 18 months in advance in RCI Weeks. I suggest setting up your ongoing search request in as soon as possible for 2012.

Also since you want a single resort, try to be as flexible as possible with your desired travel dates.

NOTE:
The RCI WEEKS (Weekly exchanges) booking window is from 2 years to 24 hours before check-in date.
The RCI POINTS (Nightly exchange) booking window is from 10 months to 48 hours before check-in date

Exchange availability constantly changes
Currently, I don't see any weeks in RCI Weeks and I don't see any availability in RCI Points until Aug 2011.
Currently, there is availability in RCI Points from Aug 2011 thru Oct 2011.

Definitely read the reviews on such sites as TUG, TS4MS and Tripadvisor

This would be my 1st exchange, so I apologize in advance for what may appear to be silly questions.

Can you confirm that I am reading your post correctly....? If we stay in a 2 bedroom and desire to pay the all inclusive rate, would the cost be $4015 for the week? We would be travelling with our 2 little ones (who would be 4 and 7 at the time of our trip). Would we then have to pay $537/ per child in addition to the $4015?

If I am reading the costs correctly, I have a lot more research to do :) For that cost, I could probably go to a Beaches resort (albeit it wouldn't be in a 1 or 2 bedroom), and that was our first preference, but thought this may be the most economical route!!

Thanks again for the assistance. I think I am going to join TUG soon too!

It looks like they charge a minimum amount for each unit based on occupancy issues so yes the $4K looks correct. This is common with AI resorts. At least with this one it's optional where it's mandatory for some. There is also a utility surcharge of $215 for a 2BR for RCI exchangers, likely the same for II exchangers.

I copied the information I previously posted directly from RCI's webpage. I would only be guessing. It's best to call DVC's RCI Desk for confirmation on the AI fees for 2 adults and 2 kids in a two bedroom.

The All Inclusive (AI) resorts via RCI aren't necessarily the most economical route.

Each AI offer is different. Folks have discovered that sometimes they can get a better deal by booking via cash instead of using their timeshare as a trade (when you consider the maintenance fee you paid + the exchange fee + the AI fee from the resort).

See these threads regarding AIs....
