I was thinking of using some points to go to Aruba through RCI. Has anyone done this before and how was your experience. Also, where did you stay and did you like it. Any info would be great. We have never been to Aruba before.

Thank you

We did Playa Linda in 2004 thru Interval.. very nice and centrally located...although right next to the hotel that Natalee Holloway was in... Would go back again in a heartbeat!!

I was looking into that, too, so I'll be interested in hearing what others have to say.

Do the properties have extra fees? That was one thing I couldn't easily figure out. Some seemed to charge maid service, some even electricity. (Can't remember if that was Aruba, tho, since I was looking up a few islands)

I called for January 2011 for anything in the Caribbean and they only had a 3 bedroom in Domican Republic.

High season is Xmas to Easter. RCI has several nice properties but none equivalent to DVC. II has better due to the Marriott's there. Occidental has All Inclusive and there is a daily hotel tax plus an extra air tax of around $100 pp. Air for Aruba is not much less than HI for many situations. Personally I'd try to a direct exchange to the Marriotts.

I also did a trade with II back in 2004 to Aruba. The resort where we stayed at that time is not available through RCI. It was located in Oranjestad, the largest city on the island. It was very convenient, close to shopping and dining. Bus service was available to the rest of the island.

The island is beautiful with the tropic feel on the west side of the island and the "desert" on the east side of the island. :thumbsup2

Have a great time.

We traded to go to Aruba 2 years ago. There was a $95 fee and that was it. We were very flexible and willing to go to several places. We were more than happy with Aruba--airfare was relatively inexpensive, too. We stayed at the Renaissance which was right in the city. The room was a one-bedroom and while not as nice as Disney standards, was sufficient. The resort was very nice with a pool, swim-up bar and the biggest draw which was its own private island. We loved it! We also had access to the hotel across the street which had a great happy hour (2 for 1) and a great rooftop infinity pool overlooking the city. We enjoyed our trip very much.
