I just have visions of Willard years ago and I shudder when I think of tails on critters......thanks for your photos

Yeah, its a harness...it's really for ferrets but it keeps the guys from getting under the couch and behind the computer!

it's cute (for a rat). are you another one of the rat lovers on disboards?

rats are so precious

and so misunderstood.

They got a bad rap in the Middle Ages and people carry grudges so they can't get a fair shake now.

But, in reality, they're quite pleasant little fellows....very intelligent and cute to boot!

Cute rat - what's his name? :)

My DH wants to get a rat. If I didn't think the beagles would torture it, I would tell him to go ahead and get one :)
I used to have one named Sigmund

Rats Rock, but in a pinch hampsters will suffice. I still have five left if anyone wants one.

The one in the picture is Blaze...his brother is Lightning. Lighting was sleeping during the photo shoot :)

These guys are great and so friendly...(and they don't stink like hamsters) :p

Hey!!!!Watch how you talk about my Grandvermin! ;)

I've heard gerbils smell pretty badly too..but I've heard nothing but good about rats :)

I don't know why but rats just give me the heebie jeebies, perhaps it's because of that bad rap from the middle ages, or maybe it was Willard and/or all those newspaper stories of filthy mouthed sewer rats chewing up babies in the slums of New York {{shudder}}.

I understand they make great pets. So do you always keep him on a harness when you let him out of the cage? You don't allow him to just run free in your house?

Great photos. The second one looks like he's playing peekaboo.

My rat had a play area that he was allowed in when he was taken out of the cage. He wasn't allowed to run free.
I can only imagine the highjinks that would ensue if that happened :p

Eeew is that rat really yours? I've never been a rodent lover. Didn't they transmit boobonic plague somewhere in the past? Yuck, whats lovable about them? Tell us about some 'famous' rats. ;)
