If you had these 4 options; which would you prefer to stay at. Please rank in your preferred order and if you have a reason why.

1. AKV
2. BCV
3. BWV
4. SSR

TIA!

BWV - my home! Love the boardwalk view!
BCV - love the area!
AKV - love the animals!
SSR - no interest.....

I'll just add a few more to my list to include ALL of the WDW DVC resorts:

  1. OKW - 4 pools, grounds, marina, quiet
  2. SSR - 4 pools, quiet, healthy counter-service menu
  3. VWL - location, grounds
  4. BCV - location
  5. BWV - location
  6. AKL - no interest, other than the rooms are beautiful
  7. BLT - no interest whatsoever

I am happy we bought where we liked staying. We won't be booking resorts other than our home resorts very often in WDW.

1 SSR Just love it :cool1: (HOME)
2 AKV New would like to see it :confused3
3 BCV pool :thumbsup2
4 BWV Just got back did noy like it - hotel feel not home- :sad2: :sad2:

Resort selection is largely a matter of personal preference. We have enjoyed our stays at all of the resorts. Here is how we rank the DVC resorts

1. AKV / OKW

AKV: savanna/animals, theme (African thatched-roof, hewn-timber lodge in a savanna setting inspired by the historic expeditions of 19th century), concierge (sunrise and sunset safaris), possibly the best executed immersive theme on property and Jiko

OKW: style (condo), theme (Caribbean influenced, Key West style Victorian), value (points, dues, villa sizes), laid back atmosphere and Olivia's (particularly when eating outside), boat rentals for canals and DD lake

2. BCV / VWL

BCV: location (adjacent to Epcot, near Studios and Boardwalk), SAB, theme (early 20th century Mid-Atlantic "stick-style" seaside resort), 11 month booking for December to enjoy CP/Illuminations and a short walk home afterward, great selection of restaurants from Studios to Epcot and the resorts in between

VWL: theme (early 1900s railroad workers' lodge, pre-dating the adjacent grand National Park Service lodge), very relaxing, another great December (holiday decorations) or January (cool weather) resort, restaurants at WL with Poly and Contemporary nearby, on the lake (views and boat rentals) and boat transportation

3. VB: Atlantic beach resort with an OKW feel to it, very relaxing, and not too far from Disney

4. BWV / SSR

BWV: location along the "Boardwalk" and reduced point rooms, same great restaurant opportunities as BCV

SSR: location (near DD and OKW), great resort to walk around, restaurants (DD and proximity to Olivia's), theme (Turn-of-the-century (circa 1900) Upstate New York grand resort destination)

5. HH: Very nice resort and staff with fine restaurants within walking distance or a short drive, split resort (separate beach house) not as desirable as a single beach front property but is well executed, just too far (six hour drive) for an Orlando resident to go for golf, tennis and beaches

I'll stick with your 4, but really couldn't chose between BCV and AKV unless I knew the purpose of the visit! Relaxing or parks? True disclosure, my very favorite is VWL, but not on your list.

1&2. BCV if spending fair amount of time in Epcot or DHS and the weather was nice enough to swim for a few hours every day. However, not at Christmas. I much prefer the ambiance of BWV at Christmas time.

1&2. AKV is my favorite for time spent at the resort. A savannah view is my preference, but I have had wonderful stays without one. I do enjoy going to the evening "cultural safari" offered by a CM.

3. BWV. I love the lobby, especially at Christmas. I love the carpet by the elevators, the quiet pool, the water spraying elephant. I've found the most consistency of service and attentiveness at the desks from these CMs. I'm not a good walker, but have never minded the distance from room to elevators even when I've had a room at the very end. I do have a problem with steps, so when I do have those rooms, I can't use these easy exits to the walkway to DHS, or the quiet pool.

4. SSR. I booked a stay there when it was just Congress Park. We liked the view of DTD and walked to DTD and enjoyed that quiet pool very much. If I stayed there again, I would want it to be a vacation that was more focused on relaxation than park-centered.
Someone posted a picture of a bald eagle that was taken at SSR, I would spend some mornings looking for it, and the otter family!

Here's our list:

1. SSR: our home has always been our favorite! Last year we thought about adding on AKV because we also love it! Now that THV are being added to SSR, it just keeps it on top! We love the theme, pools, the rooms, and the moderately lower points.

2. AKV: is high on our list. We love the theme, the animals, the great lobby (something we do miss at SSR), and really love the pool. The value room points are also nice.

3. BWV: we enjoyed the theme and the entertainment on the boardwalk.

4. BCV: just don't really care for the rooms. I know the pool is highly rated, but pictures don't really make us want to spend the extra points.

We would rate VWL before BWV and OKW before BCV.

1. BCV - love the Epcot location, pool, easy late lunches at Beaches & Cream, quiet breakfasts at Yacht Club Galley.
2. BWV - great location, love the Boardwalk
3. AKV - we bought here but canceled before the cool off period ended. Just isn't our cup of tea given the dark decor and the isolated feeling.
4.SSR - don't like the location or size at all

But we just bought at BLT. :)

To me it would depend on the size of the unit and purpose of the trip. Assuming no truly specialty rooms (BW view, Concierge) but assuming AKV Savannah view (too many units to call it a specialty view IMO), I'd rank the following for most situations. For an Epcot or studios oriented trip, I'd move BCV up. I also think the difference between the top 3 is minimal, mostly personal preference. There's a large gap to SSR IMO.
  • BWV
  • AKV
  • BCV
  • SSR

1. SSR - Quiet. Peaceful. Condo-like feel. Close to DTD. Lots to do.
2. BWV - Great location and pool.
3. AKL - Like the animals. Love the resort. Least favorite location.
4. BCV - Nice location. Best pool of all DVCs (IMHO).

I really had a hard time placing these in any particular order. I LOVE the flexibility DVC has to offer, as I can honestly say my favorite resort is the one I'm staying in at the time!

Ok, here's some more back ground. I am planning a trip 2/1 -2/4 with my Mom & my best friend for my birthday. I just did a big family trip in Sept. and we stayed at VWL (which I LOVED). I am totally hooked on DVC and would like to try to rent points for a 1 bdrm (we booked VWL with an interline discount). We will only be there 3 nights, but I plan to hit each of the four parks. My Mom & I love WDW, my girlfriend is just along for the ride.

I feel like these 4 resorts would meet everyones expectations. BCV and BWV have a location plus. I think AKV would be something unusual and SSR looks very pretty and I know it's rather new (something that would go over well with my friend).

Because we are almost 3 months out from travel, I am expecting that I will need to be flexible in resort choice based on availability. With that in mind, I am trying to determine what order I'd like to attempt to book in.

Hope that makes sense. I'm also wondering if it's worthwhile to wait until the beginning of Nov. to see what discounts WDW releases for regular rooms. A monorail resort would be fun, but honestly I feel that a 1bdrm would serve our purposes better. That and the fact that I'm used to sleeping in a king at home and don't really want to share a queen even with my best friend or Mom! :lmao:

Thanks for your thoughtful answers!

Same order.

My home resort is AKV. I love the remoteness, the themeing etc!:lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc

BCV well SAB pretty well says it all:lovestruc :lovestruc

BWV well the boardwalk says it all:lovestruc

SSR cannot stand it

Because we are almost 3 months out from travel, I am expecting that I will need to be flexible in resort choice based on availability.

Three months out I'll be pretty surprised if there's anything left other than SSR...the largest resort. There may be some BWV Preferred View, but I'm very doubtful with regard to the others. BCV only has about 200 rooms and is arguably the most popular DVC resort, and AKV only has about 130 rooms until the new building opens in May.

The big question to me: Why am I going?? Knowing the goals of the trip highly influence where I want to stay.

My usual answer is #1 BWV with no 2nd choices because I need quick and easy access to the Conference facilities spread across the Dolphin, Swan and Yacht Club.

If I were simply going for a vacation (what a concept??), I might pick:

1. SSR - because I've never been and it seems to say, "Come and relax."
2. AKV - need to try it again. Loved the hotel, hated our first DVC stay there ... and need to give it one more chance.
3. BWV - because we know it so well
4. BCV - ugh! Have no interest in this location.

Since it'll be the three of you and you are interested in the parks. If rooms are available I would do BWV or BCV as a first choice just b/c of their great location. We love both of these resorts. Next I would pick AKV as it is very unique. Last for your trip I would choose SSR as it is further from the parks and lots of people fill those buses as it is a large resort. However you may be more at the mercy of whatever is available for your dates and in that case I don't think you can go wrong with any DVC's.

Here's my order. I preface this by saying that I really love them all...

1. OKW
2. AKV
3. SSR
4. VWL
5. BCV
6. BWV

Holding judgement on BLT until I see them...

Because you're going to parks, I'll say:
1. BCV
2. AKV, savannah
3. BWV
4. SSR

Since you are so close to your travel dates, I think the likelihood of the resorts you get is this:

1. SSR
2. BWV
3. AKV
4. BCV

I based the order on size only. That's fine. You'll have a great time, because they are all special and have pluses that you'll enjoy!

1. SSR - Love the peacefulness. Close to DTD for strolling.
2. BWV - Standard points, location, atmosphere.
3. AKV - Can't wait to do an addon! Location is a little remote, but don't need to be a park commando anymore.
4. BCV - Not at all as nice as it's hyped up to me IMHO.

1. AKV - From the moment I entered the lobby, I was smitten with this resort. I love the theming, love watching the animals, love the pool, etc. etc.
2. SSR - I love being able to walk to DTD for an ice cream sundae, also love the option of taking the boat. The grounds are really beautiful.
3. BCV - SAB
4. BWV - I would probably love it, but have never stayed there...
