This has been bugging me since our trip a couple of weeks ago. We kept seeing Disney transport buses with the location sign of 'Rainforest'. We never could figure out where those were going. I thought maybe 'Rainforest Cafe', but that seems odd. Anyone know?

I'm guessing either CM transport or back to the Garage....

I did not know there was a separate marquee value for it, but Rainforest buses are the ones that take Guests to the resorts after DAK has been closed and is almost clear of Guests. Bus service is guaranteed to Guests who are in the Rainforest Café after DAK closing, and those buses line up along the curb near the Café until both it and the park are clear of Guests, taking groups of Guests to various resorts as they come out.

It's an out of service marking for the bus drivers. They also use Magical Moment, VIP CastMember, Mouse House, Belle, Ariel, Cinderella, and DH(MK) or DH(POR) or DH(...) to name a few. DH meaning the bus will "dead head" (go out of service) at the next stop.

Actually, you've got dead head backwards. Dead head is used throughout the transportation industry to mean moving equipment into position without passengers. At Disney, it's usually a bus that has just dropped off Guests at a park, and is on the way to nearby resort to pick up Guests for a different park.

On most routes, DH on the marquee has been discontinued and replaced with the actual destination, because even when a particular segment was not intended to carry Guests, we've always taken them along as a courtesy if they happened to be going to the same destination. For example, Guests traveling to an MK resort for breakfast on an MK bus, when the bus was dead-heading to their destination resort after dropping off at MK.

That would make sense as we stayed at AKL and most of the time that we saw those busses were early evening as we were headed to DHS for Star Wars fireworks.

Actually, Magical Moment, VIP Cast Member and Mouse House do not mean out of service. They all are used when transporting guests or cast members for specific routes. The only time a bus is "out of service" is when you see a characters name like Milo, Stitch, Cinderella, etc.

The "Rainforest" designation is just a way for the buses to drop guests off at their resorts without guests waiting at that resort approaching and boarding that bus since technically the park is closed and no guests should be returning to it.

I've never seen Mouse House on the marquee of an in-service bus (in fact, that's another one I didn't know existed.) Buses headed to the Mouse House use Ticket & Trans Center on the marquee, as most Guests have no idea where the Mouse House is.

As of lately all the busses I see parked in the mouse house have said it on there marquee.
