Hey everyone,
I’m at Disney Now, staying at Riviera. We’ve been here for a week now and everything has been phenomenal, and I’ve always felt safe. At least until yesterday/Wednesday evening.
We made a reservation at Raglan Road, as I haven’t been there and the person I’m traveling with really enjoyed it. I’ve heard good things and my partner really liked it.
In Raglan Road, there is the main area with stage, and there were a couple of side rooms. We were sat in one of those side rooms.
Already walking in, we could see that the tables in the main area were too close for comfort. My arm span is about 5.5 feet. As we walked through the main room, I would’ve been EASILY able to grab the shoulders of people at tables who were sitting back-to-back...I’d say about 4-5 feet of distance between most people’s backs. As we walked in, we were both pretty nervous.
In the room they sat us in, they had 4 rows of tables, with 3 tables in each row. Each row seemed to have the 6ft of distance between them, but the tables in each row definitely did not. We got sat in the last row all the way against the back wall of the room. Our row had a larger round 6-seater table in one corner, the table we got sat at was in the middle and was a normal 4-person square table, and the 3rd table in our row was a smaller counter-height table for 2. All the tables in our row were empty when they sat us.
When they sat us, we felt okay because we figured they were keeping the other tables in our row empty to keep people distanced. So we took our masks off, and ordered drinks and food.
After we ordered they then sat a full 6 people at the larger round table. When they sat down, we were both very nervous and put our masks back on. My partner was sitting with his back to them and he could’ve simply turned around in his chair, reached out with one arm and touch the other person sitting behind him. It was definitely not 6 feet. Again, back-to-back...about 4 feet.
We discussed our nervousness with each other. As we were talking, they then tried to sit the bar-height 2 seater in the other corner of the room. They simply declined to even sit down because of how close the tables were. They took them somewhere else...not sure if they left, or if they got put somewhere else.
This all happened before our waitress came back with our drinks. We decided to just simply get everything to go. While waiting for our waitress to come back with the drinks, another table that was sat in the middle of another row in the same room also decided they weren’t comfortable with the situation they were in and got up and left...they hadn’t even ordered yet.
Our waitress came back with the drinks and we expressed our concern and asked for our food to go. She went and got the manager for us.
He came back and we restated our concerns to him. He offered to move us to one of the larger 6-seater tables in the same room, but we were already nervous about the setup of this room and we asked if we could be sat outside. There was a slight drizzle all evening so it was pretty wet, but we figured with an umbrella and a towel, it would be okay. He again tried to convince us to take a different table in the same room, but we were persistent. He said he’d see what he could do. He was very nice and understanding saying that the table we were at was the worst table for social distancing....however in my opinion the middle table in each of the 4 rows simply should’ve not been there at all.
Eventually he came back and said he had a more private room for us and we’d be the only ones in there. We agreed to be moved there. He moved us to a kind of semi-private room off the main room with the stage. It’s kind of hard to describe...essentially a few tables in an area off the main room that’s sectioned off with wood walls that are the height of cubicle walls? They don’t go up to the ceiling, so not a completely separate room, but kind of like if you had a birthday party and wanted your own space.
We were offered any table in the room, and we agreed to take the farthest table in the corner. The manager ensured our food and orders were transferred and no one else was sat in our little area. Our waitress still did a fantastic job. She came and checked on us, even though we were now way out of her section. After moving, we felt comfortable and enjoyed the rest of the evening.
The food was good, the singing and dancing was entertaining! We ordered some dessert. We didn’t ask for it, but the manager gave us the dessert for free...so I added the cost of the dessert to the normal tip I would give to the waitress as she did a great job.
TLDR: a good portion of Raglan Road’s tables aren’t properly socially distanced. We asked to be reseated and, to Raglan Road’s credit, they made it right for us. Aside from the initial seating arrangements, we are happy with the experience and would go back once COVID is behind us. But if you have any nervousness about social distancing and such right now, I’d stay away from Raglan until things are more normal.
