We're going to Raglan Road on our next trip to the World. From the Disney website, it looks like there is Irish dancing there as well as Irish music. How organized is this? Do guests get up and dance too, or are there only professional dancers?

My children are both Irish dancers and I thought this could be fun for them. :goodvibes

We were there earlier this month. There were two girls dancing (sometimes just one at a time) and two musicians (fiddle & guitar & both sang. The girls alternated between being on the main stage (which is pretty small) and a step platform (which was teeny & in the middle of the restaurant.) There's no place for guests to dance up on stage. The restaurant is tight, but my kids plus niece and nephew started dancing off to the side. One of the dancers even came out when she was on a break and danced with them which was cute. You might get to do something similar, but it's not an interactive place. There weren't even sing alongs! (at least while I was there. Although I was singing with Star of the County Down.) We had a good time still.

. . . the performances are scheduled
. . . the routines are planned

. . . unionized professionals
. . . this is not an audience participation activity

. . . as mentioned above, I guess they could do it next to the music
. . . but, they won't be asked to perform on stage

The dancers usually start the evening of live entertainment between 7 and 7:30 pm. The 'band' plays about 20 minute sessions throughout the evening until about 11 and later on the weekends.

It will be fun for them. We were there Wednesday evening (10/20) and two young girls that have had formal Irish dance lessons performed on the longer platform set up close to the musicians, at individual times. The musician just played a typical reel and the girls stopped when they wanted. How they arranged this I don't know but they probably talked to a dancer or the manager first. The taller dancer is Danielle and the shorter girl is Amal. They are delightful, friendly young women.

As a previous poster mentioned little children, 3-5 yrs old, dance on the floor nearby like most children do at weddings and parties.

Gotcha. I wasn't intending to make them get on a stage and dance. LOL. That would result in a family mutiny.

I asked because the disney website says "Diners are encouraged to get up and dance a jig". And I thought, gee...my kids actually CAN dance a jig! Won't that be fun. :)

1) I have spent a lot of time in England and Wales on business.
2) I, also, can dance a jig.
3) Of course, it may take several pints to get me to do so.
4) Now, it might the several pints that allow me to THINK it is a jig.

Well, the beauty of several pints is that by that time, nobody will care whether or not it's actually a jig. You could do a rhumba to the Boys of Blue Hill (which is actually a hornpipe, but who's counting?) and nobody would be the wiser.:dance3:
