Radio DJ's: Are they raunchy in your town?

You know, I've about had it with radio here. Most stations have DJ's that do nothing but talk about sex. They act like adolescent boys. Another station has a female morning DJ that's my age but tries to act like a teenager. It's getting old real fast. How are the DJ's in your town?

Yes, some of them can be pretty bad and I'm amazed they don't get in trouble for it. That's one of the reasons I very rarely listen to the radio any more.

It depends on the station and their demographics. The local country station and easy listening station don't talk about that stuff at all. The rock and top 40 station do.

I am not easily offended by that, so it doesn't bother me.

Yes, they're very bad here. We had to stop listening to our favorite radio station here b/c of the kids. The wife found Disney Radio and that's helped...along with the 10-disc changer in the mini-van.

That said, my one guilty pleasure is listening to Howard Stern on my drive into work in the a.m.

I complained about this several months ago on the debate board. I found a talk radio station that I like and someone directed me to the NPR station in my area. I like this much better than raunchy talk and the best part... no rap... ever.

It's CDs and NPR for us too!! I never have to worry about hearing something I don't want to and having to change the channel.

I'm not easily offended either - it's just listening to a bunch of grown men (and women) acting like middle school kids gets on my nerves. I've switched to talk/news radio too. I must be getting old.

I'm with you, grinningghost. I'm not easily offended either, but the radio station DD likes to listen to on the way to school in the morning just keeps getting worse & worse. It was so raunchy this morning that I told her to find another station! I'm amazed that the FCC lets them get by with the kind of stuff they say!

The company I worked for had 5 stations all sharing one floor: One Easy Listening, one talk/new, two rock, one oldies. The easy listening has non entity type announcers, the talk has syndicated and local news guys, the oldies have old rock and roll jocks and the rock station has a bunch of jerks who might as well be in a frat house....

Like tkyes said, it's the demographics. If you like the format of your station, you're better off staying away from the morning "zoo" or changing stations when they come on. I know, the assumption that you fit in this type of demographic is sometimes insulting, but that's the way the programmers decide how to program and who to hire.

What's really amazing, is the DJ that I listened to as a teenager still works for the same classic rock station. He wasn't half as much as of jerk back then as he is now. I think he's just trying to roll with the times and act like the rest of the newer goofballs. It really looks ridiculous, as he's pushing 50 now.

I have to come out in support of the morning show I listen to...Bob & Sherry. They are nationally syndicated, funny yet not overly raunchy. Bob has this conservatism that meshes well with Sherry's hipness (sp?). Plus, at certain times, they've broadcasted from the Disney Magic Ship & the Disney MGM Studios & have given away free Disney vacations & cruises.

I highly recommend them.

That is one of the reasons that we listen to NPR in the AMs, GG. Now if only we could get our youngest 2 to listen to NPR as well.
Thank goodness they radio is used as an alarm and then is shut off!
The rest of the day, the shows don't seem AS bad.
But don't get me started on what is PLAYED on those top 40s stations!

One of the reasons I got XM radio was for the uncensored content, the dj's around here are just to old and can't keep up with todays music and style.
