12 of us are heading into NYC for the Radio City Christmas Show this Saturday. We are 5 kids and 7 adults. We have an 11:30 lunch reservation at Tony's DiNapoli and we are seeing the 2pm show.

- What time should we head to the theater? Any idea when we'll be let in? There's an 11:30 show before us and the show is 90 min so there's not much time in between. Don't want to cut it too close but we also don't want to waste time standing in line.

- Are there any great decorations we should see? Obviously we'll walk through Rock Center, but it's been so long since I've been in the city, I'm not sure what else the kids would enjoy.

Thanks!!

I dont have any advice, but wanted to say to enjoy the show...

When I was a teenager, my grandmother would take me to NYC to see the show. I will never forget the first time I walked into Radio City Music Hall..I was in AWE! The first time I saw it I had upper level seating, the 2nd and 3rd times, had floor seating, a few rows back from the stage. I remember ducking when the Rockettes started kicking..LOL..

Have fun, and if you have the time, head down to Macy's and see the window displays!

We went 4 years ago and I just remember that there was a huge line getting in. When we went they gave out little lights to be used during one of the songs. If they do this check to make sure your light works because they go quickly and then don't have enough to exchange them. Didn't bother me, but the kids were not happy and who wants unhappy kids.

Also, make sure you go to the bathroom before the performance. The performance we went to didn't have an intermission. Also the ladies bathroom is cool with the wall of mirrors.

Have a great time. Radio Music Hall is awesome and Rockettes are great.

I love Tony's! :thumbsup2

We've seen the show already this year. It was good, thought the exact same show they had for the past 3 years. RC will let you in about 1 hour prior. They will let you into the actual theater about 30-35 minutes prior. Be sure to be in your seats 15 minutes before show time as that is when the Organs play. The show is 90 minutes w/ no intermission.

I love Tony's also, my very favorite dish is the tortelloni alfredo.

The streets will be crowded and walking will be slower than usual, I'd leave extra time for getting there.

We went last year to the 2 pm show and all I can say is it was a DISASTER getting into the show. The 1130 show gets out at 1 pm so you have everyone trying to exit the show at the same time as everyone trying to get in for the 2 pm. We walked towards RCMH from the South to get in line was told that line was too long and to go to the otherside of the building...so we had to cross all the people exiting the show to get to the other side of the building. So we get to the other side the ushers are pushing all back to where we started saying the line was too long on the north side.... Needless to say I was NOT happy...neither were the 4 little girls under the age of 5 that myself and SIL were trying to keep track of. So moral of the story LEAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO WALK THERE AND DEAL WITH THE CROWDS. I would have rather stood in line for 90 min than deal with the craziness we had to deal with.

Are you planning a full day of it? You really need to walk 5th Ave and see the windows all decorated, visit Rockefeller Center (though I don't think the tree is up yet), head down to Times Square to the Disney Store, the M&M's store and definitely Toys R Us, then head further south to Macy's check out the window displays and make time to visit Santa:santa:

Thanks for all the replies! We will be there all day, so we'll have time to see some windows. We are anticipating crowds and I have already warned the kids that we'll all have to be patient. I think we'll make sure to get there early enough to ask the ushers where we need to be. We already looked at the menu at Tony's to decide in advance what we're ordering so we can save time. Thanks!!

Have a great time! We have gone the past two years but, decided to skip it this year to have breakfast with Santa at Yankee Stadium this Sunday. (the 6th)

The show is awesome and the hall is gorgeous!:)

Just got back from tonight's 5:00 show. It was great - haven't seen it since I was a kid.

Just a tip for those who are going - even if you don't need to use the bathroom, make sure you check out the downstairs area. The decorations are great and there are some very pretty photo opportunity shots. Santa is down there as well, and will pose for pictures. :santa:

There is also a good deal that seems to only be available downstairs - 2 20oz bottles of soda and a big bucket of popcorn for $12. (They will give you a bunch of plastic cups for sharing if you ask.)

The show started exactly at 5:00 and we were out by 6:30. Walked up a few blocks and had dinner at Eileen's Stardust Diner. (Typical diner food, but the waitstaff sings :))

Have fun! So lovely.

I hope this only gets you excited. I hope it doesn't ruin the fun. These are my pictures from last year. Heaven. I hesitate to post it but windows change of course. However, there are few pics - the red giant ornaments that are a staple - I think.

My favourite windows last year were Lord & Taylor's. Wait - I think they were Lord & Taylor's. I'm getting so confused. Laughing. So many beautiful ones.

LISAVIOLET: Thank you for sharing those really lovely photos!! I used to commute in and out of NYC and would get a bit jaded about the holiday season. But I can't wait to see the city again!!

Just chiming in that we saw the national tour of the Rockettes Christmas Show earlier this week in Anaheim and were very impressed. We had some concern that it might be a watered down show, but it had a very large cast - 18 Rockettes (yes, I counted), at least that many "other" dancers, 6 singers, 3 kids/teens, 2 "little people", and of course Santa. Now we want to see the big show in NYC! :santa:

Your pictures are fabulous and bring back lots of good memories of the city! :thumbsup2 Thanks for sharing them.

No real tips - it sounds like you already know about the crowds. Have a wonderful time! I wish I was going this year!:goodvibes
