I wanted to share my RSR experience from August because it was much better than I was prepared for. I had been reading horror stories about two hour lines and how they ran out of FP's early in the day, so I was thinking it would be a nightmare. Good news - if you go early, it's likely to be no hassle at all. Also if you don't mind being a single rider, take advantage of that line, too.

We got to DCA a few minutes after rope drop. I sent DH and our two boys to RSR to check out the single rider line while I waited for FP's. If lines were low enough, they could take an early spin.

The FP line looked like a nightmare, weaving out of Tough to be a Bug and down the street. BUT... it moved super fast. They had at least 6 kiosks open and a CM at every single one, so there was none of that blank-faced confusion that people get when they have never gotten FPs before. The CM took the tickets, put them in, and handed over the FPs in a matter of seconds. I was in and out of line in under 10 minutes; our FP's were for 11:30.

By the time I walked to RSR to meet the family, they were already on the ride (via single rider) and there was still just a 5 minute wait for single rider so I got in line. I rode, then met everyone afterward. Later, we all rode together with our FPs (and got a great picture). So even in the busy summertime we all got two rides in before noon with no waiting. If you go early, it's not a problem! And btw I think it's one of the best attractions Disney's ever done.

Thanks for that info! Good to know! Just wondering, how old does a kid need to be to ride single rider? Our daughter is 8 and I'm wondering if that is an option for us?

I haven't ever heard of an age limit for single rider -- I think if they're tall enough to ride, they can be single riders. You all stand in line together until the very end, so if your daughter isn't nervous about not sitting with you, she'll be fine.

Also there's a decent chance you end up in the same car -- the seats are three and three, so every time a group of 4 gets on there are two empty seats - one in front and one in back. My hubby and son ended up in the same car as did my hubby and I when we went back the next day. No guarantee, of course.

There is a requirement to be 7 years old to ride by yourself and if your under 7 you need to ride with someone over 14.
