For once, the race was the highlight of my race day as opposed to some other obscure tid bit.

I ran the New London, CT 5K road race and started out fast. This, I have discovered gives me better times than increasing my pace over the distance. The first quarter mile was on a slight decline and even though it was uncomfortably hot due to the city streets, I went through the first mile at 7:20 something. The second mile had two hills. One was steep and perhaps 100 yards long. The other was gradual but maybe 3 or 4 tenths long. That was a tough mile and again it was hot. The first half of the third mile was still some how up hill. Don't tell anyone but I walked for about 100 yards up a steep part of the hill. I figured that I could run it slowly or walk it fast and not lose too much. I did get some encouragemant from the people who passed me. I did catch most of them though. The last half mile was on a slight decline and I finished in about 24:20. That put me 82 out of 192 which I will take. When people ask me how I do at races, I usually tell them that I typically place in the top half of the middle third. Again, that was about right. I had more success at the race than chatting up the ladies after but I just need more practice there:cool1: .

The post race food was good. I had a few wraps. One with turkey and one with roast beef. There was more than enough for everyone. Great race that I would recommend.

I hope everyone else had as good a weekend.
Take care
Scott

BTW, I proudly wore my WISH shirt! I still need to get a race pic of me in the shirt to show off.

Congratulations Scott! :woohoo:

Say, are you planning on doing the Bigelow Community Challenge in September? It's in Southport, CT. Jodi (JodiStar) and I did it last year. It's a great race with amazing goodie bags and prizes! :yay:

I didn't know anything about it but I will look into it. It would be nice to go to a race and at least pretend to know someone.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

I'm going to try to do it, but it really depends on how things go after the surgical shoe comes off. I can't train for another three weeks. :confused3 I'm pretty sure even if I don't do it, that my DH will, so we'll be there! :yay:

Scott: Congratulations on a great time. Better luck next time with the ladies.

Aah, I won't be able to do it. The Niantic Bay half is that day and I am already doing that. Thanks for the invite though. I am also doing the Hartford Marathon in October. -- you?

Ummm, no...but thank you for that vote of confidence. :thumbsup2

The only things I have scheduled are the Bigelow 5K, the Katonah Chamber of Commerce 5K, Tower of Terror 13K and the Half in January.
