Good luck, WISH team!!!! Sending you all :goodvibes and pixiedust: and WISHes for fast feet :cool1:

Howard and I will do the Firecracker 5k on July 4. It will be my 3rd year doing it. My time in 2005 was 50:12 (16:09 pace). In 2006 it was 47:19 (15:16). Hoping for something considerably closer to 40:00 this year.

Last night, I ran the Sunset 5-miler in Bloomfield, NJ. During the day it was about 93 degrees with very high humidity, so I was hesitant to run, considering they were predicting severe thunderstorms for the early evening. Around 5pm, I decided to head out since the weather looked like it was going to hold off....boy was I WRONG!!!! I get to the race, and the rain begins. I registered and got my cool t-shirt and backpack, and then waited around for about an hour before the race start, luckily the rain had slowed down somewhat. During that time, I was able to warm-up a little and stretch out good, which felt great for me! I headed to the starting area around 7 to get ready for the start.

The race started at 7:30, and we were off. There was only about 700 runners in the race, so the course was not that crowded at all. The first mile was really flat, but then as soon as you hit the one mile mark, you make a left turn and go up a BIG, STEEP hill!!! It was definetely a challenge, but I refused to stop on the way up the hill, and I didn't. From the end of the big hill, the rest of the course was somewhat flat, with smaller hills here and there, and of course one big downhill section. Since the course was through a residential area, there was people all along the course handing out water in addition to the water stops manned by the event volunteers. I really thought this was cool, since it was a steady rain for the entire race! God bless those people standing out there in the rain handing out water to all the runners--that's awesome! I kept a great pace the whole way and was determined to finish in under 49:00 minutes. I got to Mile 4 at just about 39 minutes, so I knew I could make it! I picked up the pace a little bit and started passing people one by one. The end of the race involves 3/4 of a lap around the high school track to the finish. When I got to the track I really picked up the pace and pretty much sprinted to the end. Not sure where all the energy came from but I felt great afterwards. And my finish time was 48:16!!!!!!!

I was so excited to have that time especially on such a hilly course and in the rain.

All in all it was a very nice race, great organization, and I definetely look forward to doing it again next year, hopefully with better weather conditions!!

Great job Laurie!! Sometimes a nice rain is wonderful to run in. Great time!

Good luck to the other Wisher's!!

Cam,
Howard and I will do the Firecracker 5k on July 4.
:teacher: Please note the dates for this thread, missy. (As Judith would say..) I have it under control.;) There will be a SEPARATE thread on Monday for all of our Firecracker racers (that's ALL of our WISHers involved in events on July 4th!). But you would have been left off of it..BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T POST IT TO THE CALENDAR! Thanks for letting us know.

Readers, please hold your encouragement for Cam and Howard until the appropriate thread appears. Thank you. :goodvibes Anne (You know I'm funnin' with you, right?)

Laurie- Great job with your race. Congrats on getting out there in the rain, and for meeting your time goal. WTG!!!

Good luck Tricia, Dave, and Lynne. I can't wait to hear how the races go.

Congrats on your run, Laurie!

Good luck to everyone else this weekend!:cheer2:

Way to go Laurie. Hope those that did their races this AM had a good run and those that still have to do their event good luck.

My results, well not as good as my first 5k last year but then again I did have 2 months of training last year and I only have been back run/walking for 3 weeks!!! Here is my results

15 403 TRICIA 34 00:36:43 11:49

So in my age group I came in 15th out of 18 and I am pretty sure the total number was 465 and I came in 403 - so like I told my DH at least I wasn't dead last (but I did get passed by a guy on cructches - but to my defense he looked like he had a knee injury and he is a normal runner so I am sure he has more practice then me!!) I am just glad I did it and I have one more race under my belt for experience. Since it was only my 2nd race I got experience this time with the Championchip timer thing. One neat thing is this race was the 35th annual and I am going to be 35 this year (the Road Runner Club that sponsored the race started the same year I was born) It was hot but all in all it was a good experience and I am ready for more training (just not today!! LOL)

Laurie - Way to go on your 5-miler - rain and all! :cool1:

Tricia - That's a great time! I would have come in last. I've never run a 5K in 36 minutes. Good going!

Good luck to the rest of our DISers running this weekend.

Anne - you're feeling a bit frisky these days, aren't you! Quite the jokester! :lmao:

Tricia--Congrats! Great job on your 5k!

Can't wait to hear everyone else's race reports
