Greetings all -
We did the South Salem Memorial Day Races yesterday. I just want to say, as you read this report, please keep in mind that this is a killer course. The hills are relentless. Just so you know, I'm not using this as an excuse. It's a fact. I heard a lot of comments about the course, mostly things like "This course should be illegal!"
My stepdaughter Emily and I did the 5K. She's 12 and, well, really not in shape for this. I think she wanted to do it because she got caught up in the excitement of it all. I'd like to say she had fun, but I think it was just really hard for her. She was almost DFL and then she was shot for the day.
Anyway..more about me.
I had a PR! YAY!
This was my third 5K and I shave a couple minutes off every time. I finished in 37:54 and came in 22 out of 29 in my age group. I came in 214 out of 256 overall. My splits were 10:45, 12:50 and 12:40. Not too shabby for an old gal, eh?
I'm happy with it. Very happy, I have to say.
Charlie and his DS16 did the 10k. Charlie was looking to break an hour and he came in 1:00:17. I KNOW I'm going to hear about those seventeen seconds for weeks. He should be thrilled but he is very hard on himself. Well, I am very proud of him. I think he did great.
He came in 21 out of 24 in his age group and 64 out of 83 overall. DS16 came in 13th overall and came in first in his age group, so we stayed for the awards ceremony and he got a nice trophy. Not too bad for his first ever race.
Sorry I don't have any pictures yet. We took them but I still don't know how to download them off the camera yet.
Oh here's one cool thing. When I came down the hill towards the chute there was a guy standing there and it was obvious he just finished but he was cheering everyone on and he told me I "look good now take it home" and I thought "hey I know that guy from somewhere". It took me a minute to realize it was Mike Bloomberg. Cool.
