Good luck to this weekend's racers! Looking forward to your race reports.

Just a FYI, as someone who has never done a race, I live vicariously through your race reports. I pore through it like studying the stock exchange before I would buy stocks! This is just an encouragement to keep it coming! Thanks for giving all of us a taste of what it's like.

LOVE this idea! Easier to keep up with for me :)

Wooohoooo it's racing time!!!! May all of you have the perfect weather, an exciting course and excellent PRs!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Thanks so much Anne! I have a really hard time keeping track of who's doing what these days. This is a big help!

I keep looking and looking for local events but I guess people around here are wussies. I guess I have to wait until it gets nice out. :rolleyes1

This is a great idea.....I can't wait to hear all the reports from this weekend!!

GOOD LUCK WISH TEAM!!!!

Hi guys. I'm new to DIS/WISH and have been posting on the weekly Walk/Run thread. Good luck to all competitors this weekend!

-Steve

To all the walkers, woggers, and runners racing this weekend....you have already WON!
You have juggled your training with your family, work, illness, injury, aches and pains, and every other obstacle that has stood in your way. And despite all of that, you will be on that starting line this weekend daring the course to do it's worse as you mentally sneer in defiance that the miles will not get to you on this day.
So walk/wog/run the race you were meant to, trained to do, know you can do. And as you cross that finish line with your fists pumped in the air remember John Bingham's memorable words:
"The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start."
Rock on WISHers!

Good Luck to everyone racing this weekend!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hello Everyone!!

I will start the reports. My race was not listed at the top because I never added it (SORRY!)

Anyway, I did the Kidney Foundation 5K at Epcot this morning. My friend Anna who was very athletic in high school but does not really do anything anymore has been "inspired" by all my running.:rotfl2: (funny to me that I would inspire anyone to do anything) anyway, we picked this race. As some of you know from the weekly thread I had MAJOR problems with my knee this week and did not run all weeK (:sad2: which I was so mad about because i wanted to start my "official MInnie" training this week) Anyway we stayed at All Star Movie last night. We did not pick up our race packet till 8pm last night (MAN THAT NEW JOB IS GETTING IN THE WAY OF MY RUNNING!!:lmao: )
Anway, per Disney style (sorry - little sarcasm, I LOVE DISNEY) but of course they had no small t-shirts left. Actually I think it happens at all races, it happened at Gasparilla too.

So it was chilly this morning (at least 10 - 15 deg cooler than the start of the 1/2 a couple of months a go). It was a pretty small race (# of people) which was kind of nice.

Well, we finished in around 28 min - I did not see exact time, but I do know we did MILE 1 - 9:30 and MILE 2 - 9:00

AND MY KNEE DID NOT HURT AT ALL !!! :cheer2: :cheer2:
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am pleased with the results and I was very proud of Anna, it was her first race and she did great!!

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE WHO STILL HAS YET TO RUN!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Stephanie Don't let your nerves get you, you are going to be awesome.:yay:

angie

Yeah Angie! Great that your knee didn't hurt. And now you can say you've trained this week too!

28 minutes is an awesome time - I'm only hoping for around 35 in 2 weeks, but you're WAY faster than I am!

Good luck to everyone else - waiting to hear from you!

Jackie

Yeah, Angie! WOOHOO!! :woohoo: What an awesome time and amazing splits those first 2 miles!

I will go second!
It was so beautiful out this morning when I woke up that I decided to head outside to try out my new shoes instead of hitting the TM at the Y. I did a relatively quick trip around our block, which I thought was about a mile, but I wouldn' t know anything more than that because my Garmin froze. I think it's dead. I'll memorialize its 18 month life elsewhere. Anyway, the new shoes felt good so I decided I'd wear them for the race.
ETA: Howard measured it -- our block is 1.3 miles. Good warmup.

We made our way downtown to Kelly's Logan House, a pub that was founded in the 1860s, I believe, and found that this is the largest running event in the City of Wilmington. Andy did day of race registration and got number 400, so I think there must have been at least that many racers. The course goes through some city neighborhood streets up to Rockford park, partway around it to a turn around and back. I heard some young guys lamenting about how the first mile and a half is uphill and by the time you get to the turnaround your muscles hurt so much that you're grateful the return trip is mostly downhill. It was so bright and sunny and there were all sorts of people out in the park with their dogs, strollers, etc. It felt so darn good to be outside and to be using my muscles to do something that is so fulfilling to me.

This race on this course was the first 5K I ever did. It was March 2005. It was 2 months post-cure (my 4th heart surgery) and it was remarkable to me back then that my friend Jo and I finished it in less than an hour. Our time was 54:52 (pace 17:42). We pulled that off because she walks so fast and I didn't want to embarass myself or her by not keeping up.

I've been working toward beating my PR of 43:33 (held on a much flatter course with fewer racers) and had been able to beat it on a TM but just didn't know what it would be like outside and especially if I were on my own. And I wasn't sure this would be the day to do it.

After the turnaround, I was amazed at how many people were behind me. I was lovin' my music, lovin' the sunshine and just jogged whenever I felt like it. I didn't have the endurance I have on the TM, but I was much more inspired. Did I mention the sun was shining?!?!?!? ;)

I managed somehow to kill Howard's Garmin which he loaned me for the race. It couldn't find the satellites and I switched it to stopwatch mode and just let it go. Figured all that really mattered was the finish line clock. But, wait, what's this? The 2 mile mark already? Time? 25:37!!! OMG, I could actually get this done right around 40:30 if I could keep that up.
Finish line clock -- 40:06! Howard is so sweet, reminding me there were many people who crossed the start before me and I certainly finished under 40:00. But, you know what? I'm good with 40:06. That sub-40:00 is right around the corner. I'll get there.

I can't wait to hear how everyone else's races go this weekend!

Cam--Awesome pace!! You go girl!!! Sounds like you had a wonderful day to get out in the sunshine!

Angie--Great pace as well! We'll be chasing each other down at the Minnie!;)

GO TEAM GO! to those who haven't raced yet!

I'm ready to go-the only issue I'm having is what to wear--good thing I'm at home so I have my whole wardrobe to chose from. EArlier in the week the forecast was for 40s at hte start with a high in the 60s in the afternoon--no prob. shorts and t-shirt--but now the start temp will probably be in the upper 20s!:scared1: Guess I need the tights now??? :confused3

YEAH CAM!!!!!!!

You have come so far, and you just keep on improving every day! That's a great time - I have no doubt that a sub-40 5K is just around the corner.

Apparently the weather is beautiful all the way down the coast - there's absolutely no reason NOT to be outside today and to celebrate the fact that we love doing what we do!

Jackie

Way to go Angie & Cam! :cheer2: Hurray for no knee pain!

Steph-If it is going to be in the 20s, I would go with the tights but layer on top so that if you get hot, you can remove layers as the race goes on and temps rise.

Here's my race report: Our weather was fantastic! Not a cloud in the sky, sunny with a light breeze. I had planned on walking the race with my friends. Well, I got up late and hit road construction detours and traffic on the way downtown. The race had already started about 5 minutes before I got there. I then ran/walked for the next 2 miles to catch up with my friends. I caught them just after mile 2, and we walked the rest of the way to the finish. My finish time was 47 minutes, which was pretty good considering that I started 5 minutes behind everyone else and walked the last 1.1 miles. The craziest part is how effortless it was. Who would have ever thought that 3.1 miles would seem like a warm-up? I am so psyched for the Minnie.

Cam~I am soooo excited for you!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

You have come so far and should be sooo proud!!

I can not wait to see how our times for this Minnie compare with our times from Last year!!! :cool1: :cool1:
