Good luck Disfan and all! I will be sitting quietly and jealously watching an all-day cross country meet.

I'll be doing the Tour Des Fleurs 10K in Dallas, TX Saturday morning. I did a 10K last month so I'll be seeing which time is better to submit for corral placement for the Princess.

Spur of the moment decision to run the Capitol City River Run today in Lansing,MI. Did it for two reasons: One, I need a baseline time to use for my half marathon training. Since I've been on the DL for quite a while and not runnning, I figured I should get a current 5k time so I set a realistic goal for the Disney race. Second reason---WISH'ers at the race! I got to see Wendy Sibley & Karen Ryan do the half marathon and got to cheer along with John Ryan, Carrie & Scott Rivette. Fun!

It's a beautiful day here. Start temp in the 50's. Registered, got a nice LS tech shirt and lined up. Went out probably too fast, but hey, doesn't everyone. I settled into something that felt okay and the race went by pretty quickly. We ran by the state capitol and then a little ways along the River Trail. Finished in a respectable 24:42. Given that I have only run 5 times on the last few weeks since May, I was fairly happy. Nice post-race food (bagels, fruit, cider, coffee, pizza). Waited for the results to pace to verify my time vs my Garmin. So they post the results and I can't find my name anywhere in my age group. Had them check it out in the timing trailer. So all the fast 50+ females obviously stayed in bed this morning because it turned out I won the GrandMaster division as the first female over 50 to finish. Picked up a medal and a pair of sunglasses (which I really can't use since I wear glasses) and then headed off to find the half marathoners.

Caught up with Karen at the 6 mile point and then ran into Carrie, Scoot and John and boogied over to the 9 mile point to see Wendy. Carrie and Scott went all out with cowbells and signs and were a great cheer team for all the runners.

Back home now and off to do chores.

Congrats on a great race Maura!

I had the Army Run 1/2 marathon this morning. Perfect day for it, sunny but cool at 9 AM. Best part of the race, the starting gun is a Howitzer. That will get you going.

Started out going faster than I had planned. The first 3 miles were 7:41, 7:38 and 7:41 again. I told myself i should slow down but it wasn't feeling too hard so I decided to keep up the pace as long as I could. Well that turned out to be the whole 13.1 miles! My range for the whole race was between 7:45 ( the last mile where I was definately out of gas) and 7:32. I came in at 1:40:56. I was hoping for somewhere around 1:45 so this was great!

Looks like the training for January is going well.

I ran the Run The Pier 1-Miler race this morning at Chicago's Navy Pier. You get to run around the entire pier. Chip timed, of course. It was a fun race! The first wave included the 50-54 age group so off we went at 7:45am.

I was feeling pretty good and started out fast. I figured with it just being one mile, I didn't need to save anything for the end. It rained during the race but other than maiking things slippery, the rain didn't cause a distraction.

I ran pretty strong and finished with a new PR -- 8:58 Chip time! I was so happy! Better than I was hoping for! I came in fifth in my age group which was acceptable since the four ahead of me ran sub-7:00 times.

I wore my race shirt with pride at church afterwards (I got back home in time to wash up and change clothes) and taught my high school church school class. Good day!!

Congrats to everyone this weekend. What great races! All those PR's make for happy people!

I did the Air Force Half Marathon in Dayton Ohio Saturday. I was at the way back of the pack, but got the job done. I didn't post it on the WISH Team calendar because I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to be at the event. Then it turned out I was not sure I was even going to start since I was not feeling well. Just a few moments before step off, I finally felt that I was feeling well enough to try for what I could. Turned out that I am so glad I did this event.

Air Force Half is a well organized event and I really see doing this one again some time. Bling is really nice, course mostly flat, plenty of water/ade. It was a perfect day to be out in it with dry cool weather, increasing to a tad on the warm side if I were truly pushing myself. Had a wonderful experience and shared it with some WISH friends.

Another Air Force Marathon runner here! I already posted this on another thread but here are my thoughts about the race:

I just ran the Air Force Half Marathon last Saturday. My third 1/2 marathon. I don't have a lot of races to compare it too, but I thought it was very well organized. It is run on the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH.

The goodie bag, tech shirt, etc. were very good. There is a full, half, or 10K option. Plenty of hydration stations. Jet fly-overs. A free beer at the finish among other post race food and activities.

Each year they are supposed to have a different jet on the medals. Spectators were allowed to tour the Air Force Museum while waiting for their runners.

Plenty of hotels and restaurants were nearby and it was very easy to get to the race.

There was not a lot of music or spectators along the course. I think that is because it is actually run on the base so they have to limit certain areas to runners only. But it was a very enjoyable run! I would consider running it again next year, but also want to try some other races too. It is nice that we have a lot of options to choose from!

I ran the Summer's End 10K on Sunday.
I was 25th out of 58 overall and got 2nd place in my age division (and got a medal!).
My time was 51:04.
The run was mainly through neighborhoods.
And it seems like most of the runners were high school kids on track teams. So I didn't do too bad for a 50 year old!
It was a little soggy, but hey I live in WA. That's to be expected.
The only thing I didn't really like was the ankle timing chip. It wrapped around my ankle and at about mile 3 started digging into my skin. By the end I had a nice cut. Still working on getting that better.
I do like the photos that they took. I may buy a couple of them.

I did the Philly RnR last Sunday. The weather was perfect. I finished and got some bling, which was the goal. I felt pretty good up until mile 5. Back started tightening up and by mile 9 I was hurting. I really wanted to stop and stretch or sit down for a few minutes to rest, but I knew if I stopped moving forward, I'd be done. So I kept going. Finished in 3:26. I was stiff for a few days afterward and had sore quads. Body is starting to feel better, so next week I'll be back in teh swing for Goofy training.

My 14 y/o nephew did the race with me. It was his first and I know he wasn't sure what to expect. He finished in 3:08. I asked if he would do another one and he said yes, that he had fun. So I was glad it didn't scare him off.
