Wow! A whole thread all to myself...
Well first off this race is very cool just in theory. The way it works is it starts at 11:50 p.m. on New Year's Eve and finishes after midnight on New Year's Day. So technically, I ran in two different years.
In reality this poses some interesting problems. The lighting was generally poor, and this slowed everyone down. Additionally, combined with uneven pavement and a residential area where parties were going on and only a semi-closed course, the fact that no one got injured was a miracle.
I ran a nice even pace, but it wasn't my best pace. I wasn't perfectly trained and it was dark and colder than I'd been training in. (I won't say cold because it was in the thirties which makes it warmer than most parts of the country right now). I finished in just under 25 minutes, and placed first in my age group and 5th out of the women. Not bad considering how much I'd slacked off on training.
