Good luck everyone. I have a Halloween 5K down in Akron that race through an old cemetery. It is one of my favorite races of the year.

Good luck to everyone.
Unfortunately I was not able to do the Hartford half today- we were supposed to close on my new house yesterday, but of course that got delayed at the last minute. ARGH... So now my bestest friend is running it solo in just about half an hour.

10 for Texas is in the books. A nice little 10 mile race in The Woodlands, just north of Houston. While the course is flat by many standards it is rolling for those who run the coastal plain. The race is relatively small with less than 2,000 runners. Race temps were in the mid-upper 50’s at the start. For me it was fun as this will inevitably include much of the IM Texas run course. Having run the Wine and Dine I really wanted to just run a similar pace if not a little slower. I eneded up with a relatively flat split race with only two splits not consistent. A much better run that last weekend’s.

I had a couple incidents on the run. The first was a runner who went down around mile 4.6. I am thinking she was hypoglycemic and was suffering from low blood sugar. She was being taken care of but the race monitor had not spotted the trouble. So I sprinted to the next intersection to get the deputy to call in the issue. The next incident was nearly being run over by a pickup on course. Those who know me know I have been hit by a car in the past so I am always kind of on the look… just not in a coned off section of a race course. I guess the driver was just tired of waiting so she decided to turn onto the course. The deputies at the intersection did a great job shutting her down; if they had not I would have been a hood ornament.

Wow, I'm glad you're ok Coach! That would have been scary!

Sounds like overall it was a great race! Yay!!

I'm glad the security handled it, but that's not supposed to happen. I always worry about getting hit by a car on my runs, but never in a race!
I didn't know you had been hit by a car before. How horrible!

Great race report otherwise! :thumbsup2

Congratulations everyone - hope everthing went well.

Charles, that's scary about the car. Here in Ohio, someone was killed in a distance bike event when someone went through the rolling road block last August. The truck involved had break problems. It's a good thing to remember that even though you're on a "closed course" to keep an eye open.

My race was less than stellar. I was on pace to run 2:15 thru the first 5 miles, then we transitioned from bike path to city streets. I must have done something to my left foot since every time I put it down it felt like a shock from the tip of my pinky toe to my heel. It was worse when I walked, so I just ran slow. Finished in 2:28, which is my second best half time. And this was my third half this year, only 5 weeks since the last one.

The course was nice, lots of support from the locals, only 800 people running the half. I finished 5 minutes before the first full marathoner finished. (The half and full start at the same time, but at different locations, and finish in the same place). 1200 ran the full, many of them BQing. Can't wait to do this one again next year!
