:jumping1: GO! WISH Team GO! :jumping1:

Kirsty, am I reading this correctly? You're planning to do a half on Satuday and a full on Sunday? I'm impressed!

Oh, I just realized they are a week apart. Still impressive!

I haven't signed up yet but I'm planning on doing the Tulsa Route 66 Half-marathon this Sunday. On-line registration is closed so I'll sign up tomorrow at the expo.

Good luck to all the WISHers doing events over this Thanksgiving break! :cheer2:

Just signed up for at Turkey Trot 11/22 and a Gallopping Gobbler 11/26!

Thanks everyone. I feel good about my 5k this morning - I finished it in 33:44 so pretty good time for me. It wasn't chip timed but I think the clock time was pretty close to the actual time. I posted a full report on the Goofy support thread. I have to get going since I am on vacation. LOL time to get going to the NASCAR races. I go from one kind of race to another - LOL

Hi everyone! I did my 10K this morning - I got to wear shorts which is fantastic considering it's the middle of November. I think the temperature was about 10C (50F) plus it was sunny! The organizers were doing three races at the same time - 5K, 10K and 10 miler.

There were no corrals since there were about 200 people so I wasn't too sure where I should start. I didn't want to start too far back with the walkers but I didn't want to get mixed in with the 5K runners either - I figured they'd be going out a lot faster. I started in the middle and it seemed just right. The course is flat and makes its way around a section of Whitby's waterfront (that's a town about 30 minutes east of Toronto) and through a residential neighbourhood.

DF saw me off at the start, walked out to the 3 mile mark and was there at the finish. I passed off my gloves and iPhone to him at the halfway mark. It was nice, I felt like I lost 5 pounds :) The rest of the course was fairly uneventful until I got into the residential neighbourhood. There was another runner who convinced me I was going the wrong way - she said it was only the 10 mile runners who were going this way. Then she took off. Naturally there were no race volunteers so I asked another runner who was walking. He said he thought I was fine and less than two minutes later, I reached the turn around for the 10K. He saw me after I had already turned around and gave me a big smile and thumbs up! I felt a lot better after that.

I had a chest cramp around the 8K mark and was forced to walk for a few seconds until it went away. Ended up fighting against winds on part of the turnaround and had a couple of runners trailing me for cover. Hey, that's what I usually do! The nearest runner to me was about 100 meters away - d'oh. Anyway, I ended up PB'ing at 58:04. I took 2 minutes off from the 10K I ran in October.

Hope everyone else had a great time at their events this weekend! Can't wait to read those reports! :wave2:

I ended up running the Plymouth NH 5k Turkey Trot, and had the pleasure of meeting up with Pungodingy.

Was a very challenging course, and as it turns out, not certified on the distance. I'm a fairly consistent 27-minute 5k runner, so imagine my surprise when I rounded the final corner into the last 100 meters or so only to see the clock reading 31 minutes. In my mind I was going through a combination of "wow, that felt like a really good run" and "what the $&#%?"

It wasn't but a few moments later that I met up with several fellow runners who informed me the course was actually more like 3.5 miles. Ah, ok, feel better now. Leave it to small town NH to screw up the distance of a 5k I guess :)

I convinced a buddy of mine, Eric, to run the race with me. He's now done a few races with me. As it turns out, his company-- a local automotive shop-- was one of the primary sponsors of the event, and he had no idea until we got there. It was even better when the awards were being announced, and handed out, by his boss no less, who made a big stink about how he "did the company well" by taking 2nd in his division!

All in all, weather was perfect, had a lot of fun, and it was a great day!

Hi friends!!

Ran the Troy Turkey Trot this morning, one of 4600 participants for the 5k distance. It is such a fun race.

PR'ed with 32:33, 1:15 faster than last year. Course was changed this year, they included a monster hill at mile 2, all the rest is flat and fast.

Hope everyone else did/does well with their events this weekend!!

I know I am late on a few of these, but

GO WISHers!!! Get out there and burn some asphalt!! :cool1::banana::woohoo::yay::cheer2:

Great job to those who have completed your events. Thanks for your reports.

Good luck for those whe still have their events to go.

Liked that I decided to do this race. It was kind of close and just a 3 hour drive North for me.
Arrived the Friday after Thanksgiving and immediately saw Stacey and Liz and group eating breakfast.
We headed over to the Maxwell Center which is where their "expo" is held. We decided to drive and not take the shuttle bus as it stopped at each of the race hotels. Was a bit tricky to find the entrance on the campus of the community college, but we found it.
It was definately quite when we got there and the packet pickup was a piece of cake. The small expo had aprox 12 booths.
Then we left and headed to Ron Jons for the shopping. Next we went next door to the Sheridan to eat lunch near the shark tank. Was very good!
Got back to the hotel to get my stuff in my room and situated. Then met up with Liz/Stacey and group as they hot tubbed - way too cold for me!! temp was about 52. Then it was cheese and crackers by the outside bar.
Saturday we all headed to Kennedy Space Center. Was a great weather day to go and get all spacey.
Left there and back to hotel to catch the start of the UM versus USF game.
Next met Wendy (getnthinr) at the Pasta Dinner.
Off to get a nice warm relaxing shower and off to relax and try to get some sleep.
Wake up around 3:45am and get ready. Met everyone for the morning bus shuttle to the start. Well planned out and organized start. You self corraled for this race as there were aprox 2,100 racers for the Half and Full combined.
Was started in the little village at Cocoa and ran along a cozy local street that was right up against the water - VERY NICE!! Sunrise was beautiful. I was cold at the start. Got rid of the sweatshirt around mile 3 and the arm/hand warmers (tube socks) around mile 9.
Loved the finish area. Food offered at the end was good. Cheese/Pep Pizza and a nice hot breakfast selection. I even heard them announce my name as I crossed the finish line!
Here is a link to some photos from the weekend.

I would most likely do this race again in the future.

Tracy,

Sounds like a fun race...... so now we can call you Space-y Racey Tracy?

I did a Turkey Trot on 11/22, met Timmac, SO nice to meet a local WISHer, and so nice that he waited for me to come in...Thanks Timmac!! Too many hills, and it was a LONG 5K (actually 3.6ish). Then did a Galloping Gobbler on 11/26, had hills too, but not as many and not as steep, and was SO proud of myself, I took 13 minutes off my time from last year doing this race!!!! Then did 2.2 more so I qualified for the WISH Virtual Turkey Trot. Then had pie!

Hope all had great Thanksgivings!!

In the spirit of sharing the good news with the bad, here's my Space Coast Marathon report. (For those of you who are FB friends, you have already heard all this. ;))

Photos of my post race photos at Walt Disney World are here

In two words: I sucked. The race, however, was FANTASTIC!!!! I would highly recommend it based on the day I had, though the weather for this race is notoriously bad -- alternating various years between high temps, high winds, and driving rain.

For my race, though, the weather was perfect, the course flat and lovely (the entire course runs along the water with dolphins and manatees within easy sight, and beautiful homes draped in Christmas lights). The marathon medal, tech shirt, and the souvenir beach towel they give finishers (rather than the traditional mylar blanket) were gorgeous! The volunteers were enthusiastic and even stayed out on the course to see me in -- and I was the next to the last finisher, finishing just ahead of a guy who had broken both legs and was dragging himself in by his tongue (OK, that last part was an exaggeration.).

It was a day and a course tailor-made for a PR -- and several of my Disney Dead running buddies and WISH Racing Team running buddies did PR. It was so much fun seeing them a couple of times on the figure-8 course -- I even saw Jeff Galloway on the course and he said, "That's the way to do it" when we met on that out-and-back section. So, there was a lot that was REALLY good about the experience, but my performance was wretched. I am ashamed to even write about it. I told my friends that I was prepared to write a race report that said, "I didn't quit, but I am FINISHED – I am not going through this humiliation again."

But, "time heals all wounds" and after the marathon (and getting lost – TWICE -- because I am Wendy, after all), I drove to Disney just in time for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. That was a complete blast. It was great to get my medal photos made with all the characters in their Christmas costumes, see the parade and fireworks and lights.

As far as my marathon future -- I'm going to try to switch up my training a little over these last 5 weeks because clearly what I have been doing for speed work is NOT working. I'm disheartened, and poor DH was almost happy when I said I was thinking I might give up the whole marathon thing. (Now, as I am waffling, he says it's my decision to make. I have the world's most supportive husband – I certainly don't deserve all he does for me and my marathoning habit!)

Realistically, driving during the night to Florida on Friday night/Saturday morning, then doing a marathon after a short Saturday night's sleep likely figured into my running out of gas during the marathon.

I'm taking my WISH buddies to Kiawah Island weekend-after-next where they will do the half marathon. I'll give marathoning another go then. Hopefully things will go better for me there and at the Goofy in January.
