:jumping1: GO! WISH Team GO! :jumping1:

Good luck everyone, it looks like there will be a lot of WISHers doing events. I am just doing a local 5k on Saturday and then will be volunteering for the Cleveland marathon. I will be handing out medals so if anyone is running it and just didn't get added to the event list come look for me.

I like volunteering and do it whenever I'm in town during marathon weekend. I do so many events I feel like I should give back.

Had a great race today.

My previous PR for 5K was 35:24 - that was my second 5K race and I had the goal of breaking 35 minutes which was undone my going out too fast... especially in 78 degree temperatures.

Today was my third 5K race... a run/walk race that we have done as a family each of the last three years. This year was my first time running it instead of walking.

I had my garmin set to pace me - looking for a negative split run of 11:15/11:00/10:40 as the target pace for the three miles - which would have put me right about 34 minutes.

Well.. the morning was nearly perfect for running. Mostly sunny, about 60 degrees at race time with low humidity and just enough breeze to keep the air from being too still.

The race went off just about as I had planned... I went out a bit faster than planned... first mile was 10:43... but that had a decent amount of down hill running, and I knew I'd have to give that speed back right before the end.

Mile 2 contained the one other stretch of downhill, but also included the uphill portion that you had to give back as well, and I ran that mile in 10:47... pretty much right on pace. Right at the end of Mile 2 was a water station, so I grabbed a cup of water and walked for about 30 seconds while I drank it... my heart rate recovered and the water helped, so I picked up the pace back up.

The last 1.1 was mostly flat... except for the uphill portion between 2.9 and 3 miles... the grade of this was steeper than when we were running downhill at the start as it was a slightly different path, and I ran up most of the hill, but walked about 30 seconds of it until the peak... which was right at the 3 mile marker...One tenth of a mile left, and I took off... the last tenth was about half flat and then half downhill, and my pace for that tenth was right around 8:00/mile!

The third mile pace was 11:04 and that last tenth averaged about 9 minutes/mile.

Official chip time on the race was 33:23! A new PR by over two minutes.

I'm so excited. My first 5K was two months ago, and I was really happy with 36:16. My second one last month was tough, as I said, because of the temperature and even though I PRed, I was just beaten by the effort.

This one, while it was a strenuous effort, and I don't fell like I could have run MUCH faster, felt GREAT... to feel that good, and run that much faster at the same time was awesome.

My next race is now July 4th when I have my first 10K... I can't wait!

WooHoo! :thumbsup2

Congratulations!! You planned your race, and followed your plan. That's the way to do it! Feels great to finish strong and bring home the PR, doesn't it?!

Ted- Great job on a well planned and executed race.!!

AFM - I did my first 1/2 Ironman Tri in Haines City, Florida this morning. It was quite an experience. Like Ted, I had my plan, but had some minor execution problems. BUT, I did beat my " double secret" planned time. Not by what I wanted to, but still.........

1. It was an early 4 am wake up with a 25 mile drive to the site ( stayed at Saratoga Springs :) ). All of the preliminary mumbo jumbo went ok. I started in wave 7 @ 6:55. The first few minutes of the swim was pretty stressful, mostly due to not having the opportunity to warmup beforehand. I find it difficult to go from zero to sixty in a race. My plan was to be on the road 1 hour after the swim start and I pulled off a 1:02.

2. The bike course was a very hilly lead out, but quickly turned flat and REALLY fast. I averaged sub 3 minute miles (which is pretty quick for me) for the first 27 miles. Then the course turned REALLY hilly for the remainder ( noting of course I am a flat, coastline biker). So I gave a LOT of time back on the back half and finished with a 17.9 mph avg. " The plan" was to be running 4 1/2 hours after the swim start and I actually started running at 4 hours and 16 minutes. The time I saved here made it possible to make my overall goal.

3. Run course--- Very steep hills. 3 laps over the the same course for the 13 miles. By this time the temp was up into the low 90's on the city streets. My goal was to finish the run in 2:30, and my time was 2:36.

Overall --6 hours and 55 minutes. Wanted to break 7 hours, so I was happy with that. I was disappointed with parts, but for a first try it went ok. I know I have to train more efficiently and more intensely, especially in the swim and bike. The run is what it is..... And all depends on conditions. If I am better conditioned I think the run will be better overall. I definitely need to do some bicycling on hills.

So. That was my day. Hope ya'lls was just as fun!!!!!

Awesome racing people!

JimB. - Great going, it took me 4 times at the half iron distance before I made it under 7 hours.

AFM - Ironman Texas was a long, hot and windy day. I exceeded my "best case" goals on a day that was not a "best case" day, so I am very happy with that and a nearly 3 hour PR over last year with my 13:41:06 finish. As an extra special treat at the finish, Chrissie Wellington (4 time Ironman World Champion) was the one who placed my finisher medal around my neck and gave me a hug and kiss. (OK, that might only mean something to the triathletes here ;-) ).

All in all, it was a very good day for me.

OUTSTANDING Richard and JimB!!!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I had a busy weekend of racing!

I did the Auburn Dog Trot 5K with my dog Abby on Saturday.
I finished in just under 24 minutes. My new PR! :cool1:
The weather was beautiful. This was the first year in the 5 year history that it hadn't rained.
And then there was Petapalooza afterwards to enjoy (a cool expo for dogs mainly).

On Sunday I did the Beat the Bridge 8K and finished in 39:46.
I was 4th place in 88 women for my age group (just one out of the award spot - doh!).
The race weather was good - cloudy and in the mid-50's.
It started to rain after the race though.
The race starts and ends at the University of Washington Husky stadium (which is currently being refurbished).
But the racers try and beat the University bridge (which is about 2 miles from the starting line) before it goes up (which is 20 minutes after the last runner crosses the start line). If you miss it they have a band that's playing, so it's still fun!
I beat the bridge! :hyper:

I really enjoyed running these races back to back.
Not too sore today either. :rotfl:
