Race Report - The Disneyland Half Marathon: Welcome to My Mid-Life Crisis

Love your story! You are a living testament to one of my favorite t-shirt quotes - "Running Is Cheaper Than Therapy".

Keep Running!

Thank you for posting! Very inspirational! Good luck on your upcoming events!

I happen to be raising money for Team In Training, but not towards Disney, for Spartan Race Malibu 1dec12. It was not time with the tire I just wanted to finish. I think anyone can finish a half marathon but it takes a unique person to finish at a disadvantage.

Always strive to go the distance and dig deep. It is always more mental than physical. Good luck to everyone in the future.

Congratulations on your achievement!

As a fellow "Rick", I find that we have much in common! :). My first Half was the WDW Half Marathon this January, having started running in April 2011. My story is on my blog site (link in my sig).

Great race report! I am so glad that you have found running to be a vehicle towards health and peace of mind. Keep moving forward!

I would like to clarify on this story since I also ran the Disney Land Half yesterday. I am Chris Ayangco #9793 who ran with the tire for 13.1 miles over my head. The two reasons I gave to people who asked me were #1 I wanted a challenge and #2 I am training for the Spartan Death Race. I did not lose a bet to anyone. I could have run this race without the tire and done just fine, I have numerous marathons, half marathons, and obstacle course races under my belt. Hopefully me carrying the tire inspired other people, which it did and for that I am glad.

Great job Chris!! I passed you at the last corner before the finish line. When I saw you and what you were doing it gave me the motivation to get to the finish line. I had no excuses :-)

Rick, thank you for posting this. Like you, I am using a Disney race (the Princess half) as motivation to make exercise a big part of a healthier lifestyle AND I also might be going through a mid life crisis. I began all of this in January 2012 and sometimes have doubts that I will be ready by February 2013. Your report reminded me that this can be done - thanks!

Thank you for sharing this. Congrats on a wonderful weight loss. I'm thrilled that you have come so far in living with your depression. You are definitely a reminder to us all that exercise is good for so much more than weight loss! It is great for our minds too!
