DH is planning to run in the Race for the Taste in October. We own at SSR, so I called today to make our reservations so we'll at least have somewhere to stay. I asked about when our "window" opens for being able to book elsewhere (March 13th) and also asked about availability for studios and 1-BRs at Boardwalk and Beach Club. She said that there is availability for both types of accomodations at both resorts.

So I know that's still 2+ weeks away before our booking window opens - and it is during the Food and Wine Festival, so I'm nervous that the availability will be snatched up by either resort-owners or when we get to the 7-month window. Unfortunately I won't be able to call that morning as soon as MS opens - it will be later in the day.

I thought I might could send in our request via the website that morning (or prior) but wondered how will it fall in terms of priority for Member Services looking at it? Anyone know? When we've made a request via the website before, the response has been "we'll let you know in a few days"... Anyone know how that works?

Thanks.

We are also booked at SSR using the home resort time frame and would like to switch to one of those in a studio from the 9th to the 13th. One to be close to Epcot and 2 because we will be at SSR for 10 nights in Dec. But if it is not available I will happy to stay at SSR.

Sorry I don't really know the answer to where your request falls when it is sent through the website. Does anyone else know?

My understanding is that the email requests are worked as someone has time - there is no special "priority order" assigned to them with respect to the phone reservations. If the phone lines are loaded, then the emails will be worked later.

If it were me and I wanted BCV or BWV, I'd do day by day for that weekend. October 13 is Columbus Day, so there will be some extra demand for that weekend in addition to the race.

Call on the 11th (for the night of October 10th) and on the 12th (for the night of October 11). Then just call as soon as you can on the 13th for the last night. Don't be afraid to waitlist since you already have a back up reservation. There will be lots of time for it to work.

Good luck!

CarolMN -thanks for the suggestion about day-by-daying and / or waitlisting! I don't know why I didn't think about waitlisting - can you see my newbieness (even though this March will be 2 years since we became owners)?

I didn't realize that Monday was Columbus Day. Our kids don't have off school that day nor do we have that day off work so it is a "non-holiday" for us.

Just thought I'd follow up to say that I called today and was able to book the very last 1-BR at the Boardwalk for Oct 10 - 12 (unless someone cancels another one). We cancelled our SSR reservation after we got the Boardwalk one, and then our CM offered to reallocate our banked points that we had used for the SSR one...

When I called and she booked it, she said "you know you have the same weekend booked at SSR" and I said yes, I knew and as soon as I got the Boardwalk booked, I would need to cancel. She said that was a smart way to do it so we wouldn't lose the SSR one in case something fell through while trying to book the Boardwalk. I told her I read the DISBoards and learned how to do it that way when points aren't an issue :)

So we're excited - we've not stayed at the Boardwalk before and while we're spending 10 extra points for the preferred view (since that is all they had available), I think it will be a great stay for us.

Happy for you - thanks for letting us know how it turned out.

Congrats on getting the 1 bedroom! I think you'll find the location is worth the extra points.
