Quinceanera Gift?

DD has been invited to a friend's Quinceanera. She's just a school friend that she met when she started HS a couple of years ago, not a lifelong friend or anything. I don't know the family myself, or even the girl.

For the gift, I was thinking either cash or a gift card. Is that acceptable? What is a reasonable amount, given the type of friendship? DD already gave her one birthday gift back in December - her family chose to wait to have the Quinceanera until school was out. But what DD chose for her didn't seem to be a huge success, hence the leaning toward just cash or a gift card this time around.

DS15 went to one in March. We checked with a friend who is Latino. He said either cash or gift cards is very acceptable. We did a $30.00 gift card to Sephora...double her age. When we asked DS15 if there were gifts, he said, "no." There was a birdcage where cards were being placed.

Cash is the gift 99% of the time. If DD were going to one and it was just a friend I think I would give $40. I give more for close friend's or family.
