Quick--Xanax Experiences Please

though, that Xanax is illegal to "share". You have to have your very own prescription.
Since I only need 2 of them once a year (Just to fly) I do not want to go to a doctor and have him write me a script for it because I don't need it otherwise. We all know it is illegal to share, but I still think my friends are very nice by letting me have two to get me through a very stressful situation :goodvibes

Everyone, please keep in mind, this isn't tylenol we are talking about here. This is a SERIOUS perscription medicine that is also a CONTROLED SUBSTANCE! Controlled substances are drugs that have been classified based on their medical use, abuse and addiction potential, and harmfulness. You need to be careful when taking it. Please consult your physian before taking it or at least try it before you are in the air. Even after relatively short-term use at the doses recommended for the treatment of anxiety there is risk of addiction. I would hate to see anyone start off their vacation by getting messed up on a perscription drug. Please stay safe. fore more info go to the Xanax website .

I take Xanax fairly regularly for anxiety and panic attacks. If I was "new" to Xanax, I would take a .50 dose about an hour before you get on the plane. That would be enough for the average person to get through a 2 hour or so flight. Taking anymore would make you drowsy probably, but everyone is different.

.25 about 90 minutes to take off (usually just arriving at the airport), then another 30 minutes prior to take off works for me. A bottle (ok ... sometimes 2) of airplane wine in addition (but only if I have NOTHING to do for the remainder of the day).

Told DH we should plan a trip to Europe after discovering xanax :cool1:

I did get a little anxious when ds5 talked about how much fun it would be to land in the water and get to use the vests :sad2:

I started taking xanax about 15 years ago after my divorce. I used it for about 6 months and then stopped because I was afraid of being addicted. I had no side affects when I stopped. Now I use it when I know I am going to be in a very stressful situation or when I fly. I take 1/2 of the .25 tablet and it is enough to take the edge off. I use about 10 a year and the doctor writes a script for that amount. If I don't cut the .25 tablet in half I feel a little drowsy. My friend uses the .5 one as the others have no affect. I would recommend trying one before you leave because you don't want to be in the air if you have an adverse affect. Good luck. Penny

I took 0.25 mg once, and I felt so hung over the next day, I could hardly do anything. The rest went into the "biohazard" box. I just don't think I can tolerate that type of medicine. I took 5mg of Ambien, once, and, had hallucinations in addition to feeling hung over. That also went into biohazard.

More seriously, it is illegal to share any prescription medication. Technically, it is practicing medicine without a license. I would get put in jail if I didn't have a valid license and continued to practice medicine, so, I suspect that if a person got caught, they could also be prosecuted.

Does anyone know if your GYN can prescribe this? I'll be flying for the first time next July, and I'd love to have some just in case. I will be seeing my GYN soon, so I could kill two birds with one stone. :earsgirl:

Any physician can prescribe controlled substances, and I am sure your Gyn would be glad to do it for you, if you ask.

Now what about pregnancy? I use Xanax ONLY when I fly, but on my upcoming flights in June, I cannot since I am pregnant. Anyone have any alternatives they can offer? I am a VERY anxious flyer....VERY VERY VERY anxious, but I won't let it keep me from going. ANy advice is appreciated!

Jeanette

I take .25 MG before we leave for the airport (which is when my stomach really starts doing flips) and then take another .25 mg right before we get on the plane. It does not make me drowsy either. Just more pleasant to sit next to on the plane :earboy2:
