Me and DH are going to Vegas in 3 weeks and decided to make a day trip to Disneyland. One of my top places to see and dream spots is to see the Hollywood sign and Hollywood. So we are going to get up early and we were thinking on the way we would make a stop into Hollywood since it's only about an extra 40mins by doing so. Only thing is it will be on a Monday probably around 8:30am so there will prob be traffic. I don't know how much this will affect it and what the best way in would be to avoid and heavy traffic? All I want is to drive in get a picture of the hollywood sign and a couple of hollywood. Maybe see some of the famous streets quickly like rodeo drive. And I would love to make a stop on Hollywood Blvd to see Britney Spears star(huge fan). Then be on our way. Any suggestions?

Your plans can be done. Just not quickly.

On a Monday morning leaving Vegas at 8:30AM will be about five hours. From the highway exit to the sign will add another 10/15. From the sign to Hollywood Blvd another 10 minutes or so. Parking, finding Spears star (6801 Hollywood Blvd) and back to the car, figure another half an hour if you take a pic and leave right away. Rodeo Dr. is a good 30 minutes from Hollywood Blvd. and then a good 35/40 back to the highway for the Disney drive.

So if you are real fast at each location (hop out of the car, take pic, get back in) you should be on the way to DLR by 3:30/4:30PM. So it CAN be done!

In all honestly, if you are planning to tack this onto a day, you shouldn't try. If your day is free other than the drive between LA and LV plan to spend a few hours on hollywood Blvd and enjoy it.

Lol oh no we would be in Hollywood around 8:30 we are planning on leaving Vegas at 4am. I looked on mapquest and it said about 4hrs to Hollywood from vegas. I am giving myself about an hour in Hollywood. I don't have to see rodeo dr but if we would be driving by wouldn't mind. My must sees would be the Hollywood Sign and the Star on Hollywood Blvd. We'd like to be at Disneyland for 10am or 10:30 at the latest since we will only have one day there.

Keep in mind you can see the sign from many places with an ok view so you may just be taking a shot out the car window.

I can see this being possible. I've done the drive fairly fast. I would say it's going to take 3 hours plus an unknown amount once you drop into LA. That 3hours could become 4.5 or 5 very easily. So just take caution and consider how much time you want in DL.

Have you been to Vegas before? I've never woken up there at 4, but have been up at 4 on many occasions. What is your trip going to be like? Are you going to sleep so little that you won't be having a good time in DL that afternoon?

This is our first trip to Vegas. This will be our second day there. The night before we will be going to bed relatively early. We are from New Brunswick Canada so we won't be adjusted to the time change yet so 4am will be more like 9am here. We are going to see Cirque du soleil the night before then we will go to the hotel and head to bed since we will likely already be tired cause we fly in that day lol. Getting up at 4am won't be a problem for us. We usually only sleep about 5hrs most nights at home so thats all we need.

With traffic would it be better to go around LA? Or maybe go to anaheim then up to Hollywood?

Got ya. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

So if you are in Hollywood around 8:30AM you can stop at the
Hollywood/Highland complex, see the Hollywood sign from there,
walk over to the Britney spears sign and be on the road to Rodeo
Dr. by 9:30AM. 20/30 minutes to drive by and then back to the
high way no later than 10:30AM.

Skip the trip to Rodeo Dr. and you'll be at Disneyland by 10:30 so
it seems you've got your time schedule down like a native!

Lol that's ok it was easy to misunderstand.

We are thinking we may leave Vegas by 4:30am to get on the road. From what I can tell the drive is about 3-4 hours (probably depending on your speed). I don't know what traffic is like getting through LA or if we should somehow go around LA.
That sounds like exactly what I want if I can stop at the Hollywood/Highland complex and see the Hollywood sign then be able to walk right to her Star (which also doubles as me seeing the Hollywood walk of Fame). Thanks for the info. I think I will just skip Rodeo drive unless our GPS happens to drive us past it lol.
Good to know I was on the right track with my timing since I have never been there before!

Now what is traffic like through LA at that time of day? Is there a better route I can take to get around the traffic?

No I think you will find each freeway, since you have option, will be almost as good as the next assuming no accidents. I-15 to I-10 to the 101.

Are you asking about a route from Hollywood to DLR that bypasses Los Angeles?

There isn't one. Not that will save any time. The direct route (101 to the 5) is really the only, viable option. Leaving the Hollywood area around 10:30/11:00 will put you in a lot of traffic until LA. It will then be off and on until the Hwy 5 construction project where it will get bad. Then clear up for the rest of the drive to DLR.

Traffic is just they way it is out here. No real way around it.

Yeah I was wondering about getting in and out. I figured I would ask just in case lol. Thanks

Just make sure you do not head out of LA/Hollywood towards Anaheim in afternoon rush hour, or it will take you at least a couple of hours to get there :cool1:

We are hoping to get to Disneyland by 10am so def not in the afternoon lol. If I want to drive to Hollywood from Vegas and stop for maybe an hour in Hollywood then get to Disneyland in Anaheim by 10am. What time should we leave Vegas?

Working backwards. Hollywood to DLR arriving at 10am figure one
hour. If traffic is normal you’re looking at 40/50 minutes leaving
Hollywood at 9am.

So that means you want to be in Hollywood at 8am. Hollywood is
about five hours from Vegas. But you’ll hit rush hour traffic
between 6AM and 9AM so that will add at least 90 minutes. So
figure 6 and a half hours. Leave Vegas 1am to 2am and reaching
Hollywood by 8am is reasonable. If you leave at 3am there is the
very real possibility that you won’t reach Hollywood until after
9am - which is when you need to leave to reach DLR by 10.
