Quick question about DVC points and Disney Cruise?

Can anybody lead me in the right direction (or tell me, lol) how many points you need for a Disney Cruise (family of 5)?

Thanks! We are considering joining and are looking at all the options besides on-property stays, including Disney Cruise and trading out to Hawaii, California, etc.

OK, thinking 7 day cruise, lowest cabin (2 cabins), kids 5, 7 & 9, 2 adults, low season (Jan/Feb?).

So, how about that? Any idea?

Only Jan and first cruise of Feb 2004 (Eastern) are Value Season. Using a Category 10 (lowest that connects) and 4 adults and 1 child (as first two in a cabin are adults regardless of age). Eastern: 550 Western: 616 These are the points for 2004, as 2005 hasn't been released yet, and they will be higher next year. DCL ALWAYS goes up year to year. A Category 11 only saves you 24 points total, just for refrence.

Using the 2003 chart (didn't have the 2004 chart handy), it would be 609 points for two connecting Category 10 rooms or 657 points for a Category 4 room. This would be for a January 7 night Eastern cruise.

You can also combine points and cash- but would have to get the sepcific information from MS for that (unless someone else has the cash rates).

With 2 rooms- the first two in each room pay the adult price and a lesser amount for additional guests based on age.

Most people attach a value of $10 each to DVC points. So if you want to do an apples-to-apples comparison, compare a rough DVC "cost" for the cruise to whatever the cash booking price might be. Using DVC points to trade into a cruise or other non-DVC resort options aren't always the most economical use of points available, but the option is available.
