Quick Mayo Clinic question for those who've been there.

I am wondering about parking. I just read on some site that people have to pay to park at Mayo in Rochester. Is that right? I KNOW that most hotels in the area have free shuttle service. We will use that as much as we can. Is there any way to park there free, or any lots that have free parking?

I don't mind using the shuttle, but I also would like to know that I have the option to drive there and not be out a bunch of money just on parking!

Also, I heard that there is free parking at one or two of the hotels that are connected to the clinic (if you are staying there). Is that true?

I don't mean to sound cheap, I just hate paying for parking when I am going to see Dr.s it seems a little on the crazy side. I know it's normal for people who live in larger cities, they are use to paying to park everywhere.

There should be parking information in your pre-visit documentation; if not, give them a call via one of the contact numbers and ask specifically. There are parking options at many of the hotels as well. I have to give a Shout-Out for Mayo as our DS just began his Med School education there in August. We're so proud:woohoo:

I don't blame you, a day pass is expensive at Mayo. The Kahler has free parking so you won't have to worry about that. My guess is that they give you a tag for your vehicle for parking. Also, it is literally across the street and connected by skyway so you won't have to worry about a shuttle.

WOW! Impressive and so blessed!:yay: Best wishes to him!

We stayed at the Kahler when we visited there for DH's elbow surgery. It was very reasonably priced and as convenient as it gets! The whole experience was a HUGE WOW for me. I cann't say enough goods things about our experience at the Mayo Clinic at Rochester.

I hope all goes well with your situation that takes you to the Mayo Clinic. God Bless!

My mom spent somewhere around a year in cumulative time in Rochester when my dad was at Mayo. She found it was cheaper to get a room in the more outlying areas of the city (she liked Extended Stay America) even if she had to pay to park. Rochester isn't THAT big, and it wasn't a long drive. Also, when she was there (this was 3, 4 years ago now) you could get coupon books with multiple days for less than the daily rate.

It's going to cost DH and I $79.50 a night at the Kahler in a couple weeks; with free parking and a perfect location, I'd recommend staying there for your first trip. The desk clerks are so helpful and informative--ask them whatever questions you have for future visits.

Yeah, we ended up booking the Kahler, with my mom's military rate discount (retired military)it wasn't that expensive per night. Plus, the free parking is nice. We got a room with 2 beds, so that uped the price, but it's ok with me!

It is so convenient though...walking distance to everything and you don't have to go outside!

The mayo owned ramps downtown
Rochester are about 2 bucks first hour and I believe susequent hours are around a buck.

You can purchase a pass which amounts to about 4 bucks a day and allows you to come and go during the day no extra charges.

Be aware the ramps generally fill up by 9 am. There are other city ramps downtown you can park in as well.

Sometimes it takes me 10 to 15 minutes to find a space in a ramp and then another 10 minutes to get to the right mayo bldg. Elevators can be slow.

We was up at Mayo a few times in 2002 an stayed at a reasonably priced hotel that had suites DH an I had a bedroom my DD's slept in a murphy's bed that we folded up during the day we had comfy sofa, recliner, an chair a full kitchen an table an chairs in it.

i'm thinking we paid like 60.00 a night. Always used the shuttle to the clinic tho... if the shuttle was not there when we was ready to leave the clinic they was a phone call away an usually there within 10 mins.
