The woman I'm buying a townhouse from is willing to sell me her used dining table. Any idea what I should be willing to pay for it?? It seats six and is oak and modern, in good shape.

Also, what about tall IKEA type bookcases?

TIA
Edie

To give you an idea I just bought a new oak table that seats six with padded cloth seats for $900. How old is it? Maybe $400? No idea about the bookcases

Maybe you can look on Ebay and see if there is anything similar to get an idea on what it might be worth.

Good idea about E-bay, but I'm at work and we aren't allowed access to it.

Thanks,
Edie

Start with half the value of a new item and knock $$ off from there with every imperfection.

Make a lowball offer so you have some room when she counter-offers.

Well, she wanted $2400 -- to much for used furniture in my mind.

Thanks anyway!

Edie

wow, I was thinking you could offer $400 or $500 to be nice. You are saving her money and hassle for not having to move it. If she wants that much, tell her no thanks!
