Quick Fort Trip

Funny how that works, Dad always had Fords, so I always bought Fords, in my business we had all breeds, no difference one to the other

Can I get some Freightliner love? :)
I may not have a truck now, but I did have 4 different diesel pickups over the years. There was a pattern to them.

I had to go through my backup drive to dig up some of these pics. I found pics of my first campers I didn't remember having. Thanks for letting me reminisce

This was our first owned camper. We had rented popups to go to races, but bought this hybrid right after we adopted Ian. Towed it with a V8 Explorer.

This was Ian's first real tow vehicle. It got great mileage, but didn't go very fast. The hybrid didn't last past the first Fall when we tried camping in 40-50 degrees. Our 2nd camper was a 33ft TT, no slides and about 6800lbs. Towed it with the Explorer... at first.

This was my first truck, a 2002 and Ian's 1st trip to the Fort. 1400 inner loop. Also my 3rd camper and 1st 5th wheel.

Next truck was a 2008. I hated that truck. First year of DPF and regen. Ok power, but horrible mpg. Our start in the 100 Loop though with the old 5er that fit well there (30 ft).

Next came my first dually and a great motor. A 2012.

With a bigger truck, came a bigger 5er. 42ft and 4 slides and our first time in the 600 Loop.

My last truck was a 2016. Only had it a year before selling everything for the coach. This was a great little truck.

If you picked up a pattern, when I raced, I was a Ford sanctioned driver. That gave me access to really great X-plan rates on new vehicles. It was a no brainer when you could get 30-40% off on a new truck. It was always fun when buying. I negotiated the trade in price before discussing the new vehicle price. Once that was agreed, I told them I had an X-plan number. There are many X-plans, but the racer one was one of the best, or so I was told.

I never drove a Country Coach, but people say that chassis is fantastic.

Maybe if things work out you can give it a test drive. Mine is a little heavier up front because of the 385/65 R22 5. Plus the 130psi makes it a little bumpier ride.

So after avoiding Hurricane Debby, delivering my son to school in Melbourne, and then a trip to KSC for my younger son (Aug 7-14), we drove over for a 3 night stay at FW :cool1: While I visit every time we are there, it is only my second time staying ( as an adult in my own camper)... my first time being in 2014 after buying our first camper. Needless to say, I was excited to get back!

We pulled out of the county campground in Melbourne (where we had stayed for 6 nights while getting son off to school and visiting KSC mid morning of Thursday, August 14th and made the short drive to Disney. Made a quick stop at Walmart for a few items DW wanted for food in the trailer (I took opportunity to make a quick last minute inquiry with Ed about Fort check-in logistics (thanks, Ed!)... once the was done, we made our way to the outpost.
Pulled up and, while I hadn't had any assignment from online check in yet, decided to see what was available. My loop request could not be fulfilled (loop 700) as it was closed... a bunch of other loops were closed as well (500, 800, several others)...I guess at the slow time (mid/late August) is when they close and refresh or deep clean or whatever they have to do. CM gave us a map and told us what sites were open, so we decided to try site 431. She said if we saw anything else we could call back, but it turned out we liked what we picked. I definitely like the convenience of
the location... I would go there again. Its position in the loop also made for an easy back in and a quick exit and return to loop (could enter loop and back in to site rather than drive all the way around).

All for sites seem to look the same from this angle...lol.

After quick set up it was off to give Duke some run time. Over the days we made several doggie pals, but two days in a row me met the deputy sheriff there with his Golden Retreiver, Daisy.

While walking to dog park, saw the super tall Frankenstein in 300 loop...note jeep and person in bottom right for scale,

The other thing I wanted to do that day was walk to tracks between 700/800:

And we also took a walk through the path back around/behind 900... saw the old bridge to group area blocked and rotting with the area itself filled with stuff.

Thanks for sharing your trip. Love your pictures ...almost as good as... @bama_ed :duck: (J/K, everyone's pictures of documenting the Fort are spectacular :) ) In the future, we will all be digging up these pictures to show "the good old days" at the Fort.

I wish they had maintained that bridge connecting Loop 2000 to 900. Loop 2000 already has such bad connectivity to the rest of the Fort and that bridge at least made it feel that you were getting to the Meadow quicker especially on a bike.

Great Trip 4077! I loved my 3/4 maroon GM truck. But when Grumpy Aggie bought that Cyclone Toy Hauler we had to go with a one ton dual, which was my Transportation. I ended up loving my one ton.

I'm thinking my next will be 2500 and fifth wheel, but no dually for me! (...and not a fifth wheel that needs one!)
