So after avoiding Hurricane Debby, delivering my son to school in Melbourne, and then a trip to KSC for my younger son (Aug 7-14), we drove over for a 3 night stay at FW :cool1: While I visit every time we are there, it is only my second time staying ( as an adult in my own camper)... my first time being in 2014 after buying our first camper. Needless to say, I was excited to get back!

We pulled out of the county campground in Melbourne (where we had stayed for 6 nights while getting son off to school and visiting KSC mid morning of Thursday, August 14th and made the short drive to Disney. Made a quick stop at Walmart for a few items DW wanted for food in the trailer (I took opportunity to make a quick last minute inquiry with Ed about Fort check-in logistics (thanks, Ed!)... once the was done, we made our way to the outpost.
Pulled up and, while I hadn't had any assignment from online check in yet, decided to see what was available. My loop request could not be fulfilled (loop 700) as it was closed... a bunch of other loops were closed as well (500, 800, several others)...I guess at the slow time (mid/late August) is when they close and refresh or deep clean or whatever they have to do. CM gave us a map and told us what sites were open, so we decided to try site 431. She said if we saw anything else we could call back, but it turned out we liked what we picked. I definitely like the convenience of
the location... I would go there again. Its position in the loop also made for an easy back in and a quick exit and return to loop (could enter loop and back in to site rather than drive all the way around).

All for sites seem to look the same from this angle...lol.

After quick set up it was off to give Duke some run time. Over the days we made several doggie pals, but two days in a row me met the deputy sheriff there with his Golden Retreiver, Daisy.

While walking to dog park, saw the super tall Frankenstein in 300 loop...note jeep and person in bottom right for scale,

The other thing I wanted to do that day was walk to tracks between 700/800:

And we also took a walk through the path back around/behind 900... saw the old bridge to group area blocked and rotting with the area itself filled with stuff.

We were hungry so went to Disney Springs for some lunch and shopping/walking around. Ate at Earl of Sandwich (this seems to be a lunch tradition we can't break - not a bad thing). Son and I had adult grilled cheese and DW had turkey sandwich of some sort... I always get a black and white cookie for dessert, so we got and split among us.

For dessert after dessert, we were off to Joffrey's for donuts (son and I) and coffee for DW... disappointed to find that they stopped making the "Lion King Latte" as well as their other fun/yummy "Toy Story" latte type drink... she ended up with a drink you could have got at any Starbuck's... she called it " a cup of disappointment"...lol.

Walked around and went in all the "big" stores to browse... son got an early Christmas present of a Manchester United jersey from the Pele store on the west side... I won't tell you the price (especially after you choose the name you want and any patches :crazy2:... but you can go and see for yourself sometime).... funny thing about European football clubs and how the sponsor figures MOST prominently... we're paying to be able to provide free advertising to the sponsors....lol.

That evening we brought our s'mores stuff and sticks over to the sing-a-long for more dessert (see a theme?). Watched the show and Hokey Pokey with Chip n' Dale from our picnic table while getting sticky chocolate hands.

Saw more decorations as walked around that evening:

Went over to the beach and watched Magic Kingdom fireworks... to far down from dock to hear music, but I liked them.

IMG_2258.jpeg

Between fireworks and the water pageant, we took a spin around the inside of the "new" TE to see it in person... at least you can get the fried chicken and some good looking sides... think I'll try in November. Took the picture I needed:

While our usual loop we request is 1100, I have been looking at the 400 loop for our next visit which I hope will be sooner than later. Tough making plans for a high school freshman, a f/t college professor and 5 other people that timing will fall into place smoothly.

Our first full day was a day at EPCOT... did not have phone out taking pictures, but did ride Guardians (we had purchased this LL to make SURE we got it as son really wanted to go and we did not know how we would fair in virtual queue attempt... but as luck would have it, we got group seven! ) It is a very cool coaster in the rotating of the cars and it is, of course, very smooth as brand new. However, my tummy doesn't do this stuff well anymore, so after once I was done. My son, however, loved it and used our two purchased LL rides for himself later that day. We waited in shade by exit for him as he did his two rides over about 90 minutes... saw multiple people come out and have to sit on benches to recover... I thought we might need to get medical staff for one of them!

Had more Joffrey's donuts, ate BBQ at America (was good!). Had our popcorn bucket which we refilled a few times with maple popcorn in Canada. Did all the usual ... Spaceship Earth, Soarin' a few times, Living with the Land, Mission Space, Mexico boat ride. Had our fill at Club Cool...yay Beverly!! (I was mean and brought a cup to my wife telling her is was the cucumber Sprite... yeah, I guess I was mean... I walked back and got her the right stuff after).

In middle of day I drove back, took Duke to park, and got back in about 1 hr 15 mins...not bad I thought.

Saw the "new" night show at EPCOT, liked it well enough....I think the shows seem to have plenty of fireworks and the light/water display is pretty cool.

After we got back to campsite, I walked to pool and refreshed in there for a bit followed by hot tub for a few minutes before back to camper, shower and bed.... I must say we had great wether (no rain) and loved hitting the pool between 10 and 11 pm!

Next day was a Fort/other non-park day... few more pics...

Ready to enjoy my day here!

Walked over to TE to see morning offerings... brought back this Mickey Head cinnamon role to share... was very good!

Walked along path to the DVC display cabins in 100... they have the signs up to direct you as long as the stckers on the pathway all the way from the road to the cabins.

Made daytime trip to the pool and saw them doing the archery...

Pretty busy day at the pool, but water felt great!

IMG_2276.jpeg

Our other activities this day were taking a boat to MK, getting on the monorail there, did the resort loop all the way around back to MK (with a stop and get off at Grand Floridian to walk around for a bit).

That evening we had a reservation at O'hana for dinner... was great but ate too much as usual! Curse you o so very delicious pineapple coconut bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce!

Had a great table looking right over pool and at castle (good thing about being a party of 3 and getting the 3 person tables along the side there).

....and over to castle.

Left for home the next morning... stopped at South of the Border campground first night (Buc-ees Daytona on the way) and then made second night stop at Gettysburg KOA... got there early enough to make a very quick/abbreviated run through some of the battlefield.... haven't been since I was a teen. Would love to go back with my younger son and spend some days really visiting and exploring. Watched many movies and read books about Gettysburg... nice to see the history in person...

The "High Water Mark" (copse of trees - the point that the Confederate attack was "aiming" for - in area of the furthest reach of the Confederate march/attack on the Federal line at the climax of the battle on July 3rd, 1863, for those unfamiliar)

In any case, made it home the next day.... Longest trip (2 weeks) that I have been out in the camper to date. overall a good trip, but lots of mixed emotions with the drop off of my older son at school. He seems to be doing just fine, though!

Can't wait to get back to Fort later this year... really love it there!!

We did Gettysburg 7 years ago and want to go back. It was part of a Civil War road trip for us. We would love to dedicate more time there.

Jimmy, I love the pic of your campsite here with your Chevy/GM truck.

Now the FORD guys will make excuses  and the few Dodge Ram guys will pump their fist and yell and the wind : :joker:

But that is a great pic of a Chevy/GM truck and the rest of us GM truck guys already know what the science is.

Glad you had a great stay.

Bama Ed

PS - The WHINE will come 🍷 but it iz what it iz .... I'm glad you and the FAM are back home.

Great TR, Jimmy.

I always thought the 400 loop would be nearly as great a location as 100, but never stayed there. Looking forward to November and seeing everyone.

No doubt tricky scheduling… I would definitely go 400 again!
